Val Uzoma – Owner

Val Uzoma – Owner

Val Uzoma, RPh, MBA. opened the Norwood office of Home Instead Senior Care in 2008 with the goal of utilizing his service industry experience to provide the best possible homecare assistance to seniors, enabling them to stay in their homes or wherever they call home for as long as they can. Val also has strong clinical skills derived from being a pharmacist and many years of work as a senior clinical pharmacist at Brigham & Women's Hospital.

 

Val has a dedicated office staff and very wonderful CAREGivers, whose ultimate aim is to provide the best care to our senior clients, allowing them to maintain their dignity and independence.  ​​


Brenda Mellor - Director of Operations

Brenda Mellor - Director of Operations

​Brenda Mellor was promoted to Director of Operations in March 2020. She started in April 2013 as our Staff Coordinator, working on scheduling and coordination to provide the best services to our clients and match CAREGivers with suitable assignments. She would go on to tackle many challenging projects, demonstrating excellent communication skills along with efficiency and keen judgement, making her a great person to take on management responsibilities as Director of Operations. Brenda has always loved kids and seniors. She worked for a time in elementary schools, and then at State Street Bank for 10 years in a variety of administrative positions. After caring for both parents when they were ill, Brenda decided to pursue CNA training. She felt there were times her parents' care could have been better, and she wanted to know more. Brenda finished the Red Cross CNA Course and then worked as a CNA at N.E. Sinai in Stoughton. Her position at Home Instead Norwood builds on her administrative and CNA talents.​​


Alison Otis Uzoma - General Manager

Alison Otis Uzoma - General Manager

Alison helped launch the office in September 2008 as Office Manager. She came from a background in nutrition research and healthcare communications. Alison spent many years being a caregiver to her grandmother and those experiences are a big part of her wish to work in senior care and help seniors stay in their homes as long as possible.​

Kathy Walsh, RN - Client Care Supervisor

Kathy Walsh, RN - Client Care Supervisor

Kathy Walsh, RN, started in May 2013 and oversees our client care through Quality Assurance home visits. These visits help us make sure that all our clients' needs are being met. We feel strongly that feedback from our clients, families and CAREGivers is necessary to make sure we are providing excellent service. Kathy spends the majority of her time out of the office meeting with clients, families and CAREGivers. In her 25-year nursing career, Kathy's expertise for many years was in women's health, from infertility to GYN Oncology. She always enjoyed working with her older patients, and after taking care of her elderly mother-in-law, she decided to make a change to elder care. She finds it very rewarding.​

Laurie Blake - Home Care Consultant

Laurie Blake - Home Care Consultant

Laurie Blake joined us as Community Service Representative in February 2012, bringing with her a wealth of networking and sales skills.  Laurie calls on hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, home health companies, hospice companies, and many other medical or senior related organizations to educate the community about the services that Home Instead Senior Care provides to seniors. Laurie cared for both of her parents and knows firsthand the challenges of Alzheimer's from her mother's fifteen years with the disease.  She balances work with a busy family life as a mom of 3 teens and volunteers for many activities.​​

Cindy Paille - Recruitment and Engagment Coordinator

Cindy Paille - Recruitment and Engagment Coordinator

Cynthia comes to Home Instead with over 20 years’ experience in the home care field. She received her Certified Nursing Assistant certification in 1991. Her extensive background within the home care field helps her look for qualified and caring CAREGivers. She wants to hire people who she would let care for her own family. Cynthia has her Bachelor’s degree in psychology and is studying for her LPN. In her Bachelor’s program, she connected with a class about elderly patients and what they go through mentally as they age. Cynthia recently move here from California and is excited to be back with her family and friends in Massachusetts.

Kathy Martin - Administrative Assistant and Receptionist; On Call Service Supervisor

Kathy Martin - Administrative Assistant and Receptionist; On Call Service Supervisor

Kathy Martin joined Home Instead Norwood as a CAREGiver in September 2012. After 30 years of administrative work with Boston Apparel/Chadwick's of Boston, Kathy knew she wanted to work with the elderly. She enrolled in the American Red Cross HHA/CNA Training Program and passed her CNA exam in 2012. Since December 2012, Kathy does quadruple duty - she brightens up our Reception area, she keeps things well stocked and running smoothly as Administrative Assistant, she still keeps up some regular CAREGiving shifts, and she handles weeknight on call duties.​​

Bintu Sheriff - Scheduling Coordinator

Bintu Sheriff - Scheduling Coordinator

Bintu came aboard as an addition to the Coordinating Team in December 2017. She had past experience in hands-on care for seniors as well as case management for adults with disabilities. Those skills plus her warm, compassionate and caring approach to everyone she meets make her a great addition to our office. When she’s not busy scheduling shifts, Bintu is often out in the field, introducing CAREGivers to clients and checking in to see how things are going.
