Candice Steps In to Help Her Father-in-Law, Earns Honor
Candice Beddo has landed the rare double: She’s serving simultaneously as a family caregiver and senior-care professional for the same person, her father-in-law. Even more notable, she’s been honored as a Care Professional of the Month at Home Instead® of San Angelo, Texas, where Lorena and William Shensky are the award-winning franchise owners.
Home Instead Recruitment and Engagement Advisor Rozephyr described Candice’s role as “a family Care Pro,” and Rozephyr added: “Candice also picks up additional short-notice shifts and accepts other clients, including some of our most complex-care clients. Candice communicates with our office consistently and provides feedback regarding her clients. She is consistently on time and rarely calls off. Candice is truly beyond deserving of her honor. We are so grateful to have Candice as part of the Home Instead San Angelo family!”
The primary beneficiary of Candice’s skilled care, compassion and empathy, her father-in-law, previously had a different Home Instead Care Pro but lost her. “It was a win-win for me and my father-in-law. I wanted to spend more time with family, so I applied to be his Home Instead Care Pro,” Candice explained.
She added: “I started in professional caregiving with Mason Home Health, which is 105 miles southeast of San Angelo in Mason, where I took care of my grandmother. I’ve had many different jobs since then. I have been a cashier at different places and a full-time and part-time teacher. I took care of my grandmother in 2011 when I lived with her.”
She grew up in Fredonia, Texas, and graduated in 2005 from Mason High School (Texas). For college, Candice graduated from Ashford University with a bachelor’s degree. She taught in the Olfen, Texas, school district. Candice has had two stints with Home Instead, a total of 13 months. She first joined Home Instead on Dec. 10, 2024. Candice believes she has found her niche. Referring to Home Instead, Candice said: “I get to meet new people and learn about them. I love talking to seniors and learning about history through their eyes. I enjoy listening to their childhood stories. They also have so much wisdom to share.”
As an example, Candice recalled: “One client told me she grew up during the Great Depression. She told me how jobs were scarce, and they ate what they grew. Meat from the store was too expensive or not available, so they hunted rabbits and other small game for meat. Another client told me about milking cows as a child and how good the milk tasted.”
Candice loves being a part of the Care Pro team for one of West Texas’s outstanding Home Instead franchises, a member of the world’s largest home-care network and the most advanced care platform. William and Lorena also own the successful Home Instead franchise in Midland, Texas, which serves Odessa and other Permian Basin communities.
Overall, there are 100,000 Care Pros worldwide meeting the growing needs of millions of older adults and their families. For Candice and her fellow Care Pros, touching lives impacts their souls, whether they are providing physical help such as light housekeeping, meal preparation, medication reminders or personal care or if they are offering emotional support in a companionship role.
