Sister Was Right: Chynna Found Fulfillment as Care Pro
Her sister pointed Chynna Kinnermon to the award-winning Home Instead® franchise in San Angelo, Texas, for a job possibility. Before Chynna’s sister left the workforce to start her family, she had served as a Home Instead Care Professional and recommended it. Chynna explained: “I had just left a job I hadn’t enjoyed that much, and my sister thought this job would be a good fit.” If Chynna had any doubts about one-on-one professional senior care, those doubts evaporated after her first shift with her first Home Instead client.
“The Home Instead schedulers matched me with a client in an assignment that worked out well immediately. We bonded almost instantly. I love going to my client’s home, and I feel as if I’m still home,” Chynna said with a giggle. “My client is like family because we work together in goals and expectations. Clocking in and out are my only daily reminders I’m even at work.”
Chynna, who has worked for Home Instead for a year, likes to keep things fresh and interesting for her client, the same gentleman with whom she first served. By doing so, she has made memories for the client and herself while improving the client’s quality of life.
“My client wanted to do something different, and he told me he’d never been to the museum,” Chynna said, “so I arranged a ride for us to go there. We got to see the history of our town as well as a few prehistoric exhibits.”
Chynna added: “We made the trip to celebrate my client’s achievement of quitting his smoking habit cold turkey after 65 years! He was proud of himself, and so were his family and I.”
Home Instead Engagement and Training Coordinator Rozephyr Jean said Chynna was an easy choice for the franchise’s Care Pro of the Month honor. “We are proud to recognize Chynna as our March honoree! She goes well above and beyond expectations for her client,” Rozephyr said.
While noting that Chynna embodies Home Instead’s guiding principles of “Build Trust, Take the Lead and Share Your Heart,” Rozephyr outlined some of Chynna’s achievements:
- “She schedules all of her client’s appointments and transportation.”
- “Chynna keeps her client’s calendar updated. While doing that, she tracks her client’s medical providers, including their orders and protocols, while making sure our office staff knows about it as well.”
- “If you listen to the client’s Sensi AI alerts, you can hear how amazingly well Chynna works with him.”
- “Chynna also attends every training session and always has a smile on her face.”
Rozephyr added: “Thank you, Chynna, for your dedication, professionalism and compassionate spirit. We are so grateful to have you as part of the Home Instead San Angelo family!”
Chynna feels she’s been grafted into a special work family with co-owners Lorena and William Shensky’s Home Instead franchise. “I was a correctional officer and worked in the mental-health field. I wanted to be part of a work family who truly cared about me and my family, and I wanted to actually enjoy my job,” Chynna said.
Chynna was born with a compassionate heart. “Growing up,” she said, “I usually helped with or was the sole caretaker of special-needs kids younger than I was or who were my age.
“As an adult, one of my first jobs involved taking care of geriatric patients with various mental disorders or illnesses. I taught baking and did movie days with them. Soon after, I made a small career change and worked in corrections in a mental-health unit. When I left that job, I did not feel as if I loved my job. I do with Home Instead.”
