Happy Family Caregiver Appreciation Month, Nuke and Eve.
Sometimes, the family finds us. Nuke first met Eve at an Alzheimer’s training program. The two became fast friends. Nuke’s family lives overseas and she describes Eve as her “Aunt”. Their shared love of cooking and music has developed into a mutual caregiving relationship. Nuke provides socialization for Eve and in return Eve provides Nuke with the comforting warmth and inclusivity of a family. Eve enjoys sharing her grandchildren’s milestones with Nuke, who in turn, shares stories of her family in Indonesia.
Plant sitting and pet sitting are only a few of the ways Nuke and Eve support each other. The real depth of their friendship is time spent together encouraging one another to live a healthy lifestyle to age 100! Nuke will say, “We really care for each other.”
