At Home Instead, care is built on relationships. We take the time to understand what matters to you and your family—then provide support that feels consistent, thoughtful, and personal.
What sets us apart? We don’t just show up. We build trust. We get to know your family, listen to what matters, and create a plan that fits your life. And because we’re locally owned, you can count on care that’s rooted in the community.

Yes. Personal care can include bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility assistance, but the way that help is provided matters.
Our Norfolk and Columbus team has found that a client who resists a shower may respond differently when the routine feels more like a relaxing spa experience. Another person may care deeply about putting on jewelry or favorite lipstick after getting dressed.
Those preferences aren’t extras. They’re part of understanding the person receiving care and helping them continue familiar routines in their own home.
Transportation may be included in a customized care plan. That can be especially important in rural communities where medical appointments, therapy, pharmacies, and other services may be a considerable distance from home.
A Care Pro may help with approved transportation and provide support before or after the appointment as appropriate.
Our team has also helped with more unusual transportation needs. One client living with Parkinson’s wanted to fly to visit family, and his Care Pro helped him navigate the airport and TSA process so he could make the trip.
Yes. The Norfolk and Columbus team has regularly worked with area care communities including The Heritage at Fountain Point, Kinship Pointe, and The Heritage at Meridian Gardens, providing one-on-one support to residents.
Home Instead care can supplement the services already available in a community when an older adult benefits from additional individualized assistance or companionship.
The exact role depends on the resident’s needs and the community’s policies. We describe these relationships precisely as providing support within these communities rather than implying that Home Instead replaces their staff or services.
Yes. Home Instead provides non-medical support for people living with chronic conditions. That can include personal care, mobility assistance, meals, transportation, companionship, and help with everyday routines.
One Norfolk and Columbus client living with Parkinson’s wanted to travel by air to see family. His Care Pro helped him through the airport and TSA process so the trip was manageable.
Care Pros don’t treat Parkinson’s or replace medical providers. The role is to help the person manage everyday life around the condition and continue doing things that matter to them when appropriate.
Yes. Home care should change with the person.
Someone recovering from an injury may begin with substantial assistance and later need fewer hours. Someone living with dementia may initially need companionship and meals but later require personal care or a more extensive schedule.
The Norfolk and Columbus team can review the customized care plan and adjust the schedule as circumstances change. Families don’t have to assume that the amount of care they start with will always be the amount they need.
Matching considers the person’s care needs, schedule, personality, routines, and other relevant factors. Compatibility matters because home care is personal—especially when a Care Pro is helping with bathing, spending significant time with someone living alone, or supporting a person living with dementia.
The goal isn’t simply to fill a schedule. It’s to establish a workable care relationship while making sure the Care Pro is appropriate for the needs included in the care plan.
The Norfolk and Columbus office has a contract with the Medicaid Waiver program. Whether an individual qualifies and which services may be authorized depends on that person’s eligibility and programme requirements.
Because Medicaid coverage is individual, we won’t assume that a particular service is covered simply because Home Instead participates.
Families considering Medicaid Waiver funding should discuss their situation with the local office so care needs and available funding can be considered together.
