"I am continually struck by the professionalism, high level of caring and exemplary caregivers that I have met from Home Instead. My mom couldn't live without them, and neither could I.
I opened my Home Instead Senior Care office 13 years ago in 2005. In my college years, I worked as a Home Health Aid to the elderly and checked in on my grandmother to help my Mom. My mother constantly worried about my grandmother. Was she okay? Did she eat today? Did she take her medication? She once left the stove on after making tea. My grandmother ended up in a nursing home with dementia and my mother had deep regrets all the days of her life. She wished she had found a way to keep my grandmother in her home (she also wished she had taken my grandmother into our home).
I never forgot how deeply it affected my Mom. My mother passed away last year, she moved into my home under hospice care. After she passed away, I moved my 90-year-old dad in with me. I was determined to take care of my wonderful parents and not have any regrets.
I don't do it alone! No one can. Yes, I have wonderful CAREGivers from my office help 2-3 days a week with my dad. He no longer drives, but is independent. They take him out and help him with his beloved puzzles! I've enlisted the help of my wonderful fiancé, my daughters, my niece and sister. It's not always easy, but I know it's a decision I will never regret. I loved my mother very much. She meant the world to me. I hope she knows I am trying my best every single day for my dad and the wonderful clients and families my office serves. I understand the stress in their lives. I don't take their trust lightly. Every single day an office staff of 13 and a dedicated staff of 170 professional CAREGivers are caring for the seniors we serve. It is truly an honor.
My parents, Pat and Joe, at my daughter's wedding.
