Extensive and Ongoing Training

We believe that if we give our CAREGiversSM the tools they need to succeed, we will be better prepared to enhance the lives of the aging adults and their families we are committed to serve. For this purpose, we have developed a world-class training curriculum that each of our employees goes through during their time at Home Instead Senior Care. We take training seriously and cover a wide variety of issues related to aging.

As of January 1, 2016, all Home Care Organizations in the State of California are required to provide 5 hours of training to caregivers before they are allowed to care for a senior. Fortunately, we have been executing beyond this benchmark for years. We continue to push beyond the standard. Each of our CAREGivers is provided continuous and ongoing training from day one and throughout their entire journey with us.

A little "hands-on" training today.

Our Unique Approach to Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care

We pioneered memory care training. In collaboration with experts on Alzheimer’s disease, we created a training program called Alzheimer’s Disease or Other Dementias CARE: Changing Aging Through Research and Education®. This unique program equips our CAREGivers to deliver distinctive memory care based on research and experience.  Rather than focusing on the diagnosis and symptoms of the disease, our CARE program focuses on the care and dignity of the person with dementia. This relationship-centered approach enables CAREGivers to provide individualized care that:

  • Helps your loved one remain safe and calm at home
  • Encourages engagement
  • Provides nutritious meals
  • Creates social interaction
  • Provides mind-stimulating activities
  • Helps minimize changing behavioral & cognitive symptoms
  • Honors who the senior was earlier in life
  • Supports the family

Free Training and Resources for Families

Our training doesn’t stop with our professional CAREGivers. We know family caregivers are looking for help, too. That’s why we also offer free Alzheimer’s Family Caregiver Training to any family that needs support. The free training is available through an online e-learning course at HelpForAlzheimersFamilies.com, or at local Home Instead Senior Care offices

You’ll also find additional resources, such as a free smartphone app with tips for minimizing symptoms, or more information about Alzheimer’s care services at HelpforAlzheimersFamilies.com.

Free Alzheimer’s Care Services for Families in Need

It’s our honor to be able to help out families who may be unable to afford Alzheimer’s care services or who simply need respite. Home Instead Senior Care® has partnered with Hilarity for Charity® to establish the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Relief Grant Program. This program delivers in-home Alzheimer’s respite care at no cost to families who have been awarded a grant.

Any family caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias can apply for a grant. Apply now.
