Honoree Maudlyne: ‘Serving as a Care Pro Is a Lifestyle’
Care Professional of the Month Maudlyne Agazuma’s position with Home Instead® of San Angelo, Texas, isn’t an ordinary job. It holds much more significance than the typical 8-to-5 grinder most people endure. “Personally, what I do is an everyday lifestyle,” Maudlyne pointed out. “I am responsible for another human, whether that person is a Home Instead client, a spouse, a partner, parents, children or anyone else.”
Maudlyne sees professional senior care and family caregiving in the same light and attaches the same respect for each. “It’s so amazing how you can do something with passion, love, commitment and dedication without knowing it is called ‘caregiving,’ ” Maudlyne explained. “In other countries, including the U.S., you can get paid for caregiving as a trained professional. In my native country of Nigeria, we serve as family caregivers with passion and love without pay. I cared for my maternal grandparents before they passed on. I still care for my paternal grandmother, who is older than 100.”
Maudlyne, who has worked for Home Instead for a little over five months, found the award-winning franchise on Indeed.com. “Home Instead was different from all the care jobs I previously had seen,” Maudlyne said. “Before joining Home Instead, I had worked in the home-health field. I left that line of work to gain a certification at Howard College in San Angelo, Texas, and returned to that company. Then I made the change to join Home Instead.”
Maudlyne provides companionship, safety assurance, meal preparation, medication reminders, light housekeeping, and transportation and errands. She offers personal assistance with eating, grooming, dressing, bathing, incontinence care, cognitive impairment, hospice support and mobility. By expertly doing so, Maudlyne not only assists her clients, but helps their families eliminate worry, reduce stress and re-establish personal freedom. While drawing on her own extensive caregiving experiences, Maudlyne’s focus on Home Instead’s training, processes and procedures of successful caregiving helped her achieve Care Pro of the Month status.
To be considered for the Care Pro of the Month award, an employee must show she has gone above and beyond the call of duty. Empathy and compassion are taken into account for the honor, as well as skill and wisdom for dealing with challenging situations. Maudlyne embodies Home Instead’s guiding principles of “Build Trust, Take the Lead and Share Your Heart,” Engagement and Training Coordinator Rozephyr Jean said.
Maudlyne talked about the rewards of her Care Pro job: “Putting smiles on my clients’ faces is what I like best. Their happiness makes me happy, too.” To describe a repeated humorous scene with a client, Maudlyne said: “I have a client who loves to eat cookies after each meal. While hiding a cookie in my hand, I ask, ‘Mr. A., do you want a cookie?’ Mr. A. always replies, ‘Is the pope a Catholic?’ It’s always so hilarious how we engage in the identical exchange every time.”
Maudlyne is an important part of the Care Pro team at the San Angelo franchise, a member of a network comprised of Home Instead, Inc. and its parent company, Honor. With the world’s largest home-care network and the most advanced care platform, Honor and Home Instead are revolutionizing care for older adults, their families and Care Pros.
