Home Care Services FAQs
Personal care is hands-on help with daily routines while encouraging clients to keep doing what they can safely do themselves.
That might include bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, meals, mobility, or transfers.
For one client who dreaded showering, her Care Pro learned what made the experience enjoyable and transformed shower time into her own personal ‘spa day.’ Something that had caused stress became an activity she looked forward to while still supporting her hygiene, dignity, and independence.
Before working independently, every Care Pro completes at least 19 hours of training and supervised experience.
That includes eight hours of hands-on personal care training where Care Pros practise skills such as personal care, safe transfers, mobility assistance, and use of common durable medical equipment. They also complete seven hours of online education and a four-hour shadow visit.
The shadow experience is competency-based, so the Care Pro must demonstrate they can safely provide the required support.

Depending on the care plan and appropriate scope, that can include medication management, wound care, durable medical equipment, and other complex needs alongside everyday assistance.
Care Pros can also receive client-specific training for equipment such as Hoyer lifts, sit-to-stand devices, and shower benches.
