March 2026 Care Professional of the Month: Patricia
Hello, my name is Patricia. I am a dedicated Care Professional with a passion for Elder Care, including supporting seniors living with Dementia.
My interest in seniors started in Girl Scouts with visits to nursing homes. In college, I was able to get an internship at a local nursing home. I was fascinated by their stories and hearing their words of wisdom. During college I also worked in the activities department at a nearby nursing home, which further deepened my love for working with seniors.
After graduation, all my jobs involved working with seniors in different settings, including a senior center and an adult daycare. I took time off from working to be with our special needs son, but I truly missed working—especially working with seniors. When our son was old enough to go to school full time, I applied at Home Instead Senior Care. The hours allowed me to be home when our son was home and, years later, made it possible for me to help care for my father-in-law.
In my 24 years at Home Instead as a Care Professional in the field of Elder Care, I have had the privilege of meeting and caring for so many incredible people. I cared for a woman who saw polar bears in the wild while working as a docent for the Baltimore Zoo. I met a couple who attended the parade in Baltimore for the famous aviator Charles Lindbergh. Both had come from Norway in their teens and were married for 70 years. I was serenaded by a man who once played in a rock band and shook the hand of a woman who had shaken the hand of a president.
I have also cared for many men and women who bravely fought for our country, as well as seniors living with Dementia who needed patience, compassion, and understanding.
I am hard pressed to find many jobs where you can experience all of that. The cherry on top is helping seniors live safely in their homes and giving their families a well-deserved break from care giving through compassionate Elder Care.
