Henrietta’s path to care giving wasn’t something she stumbled into—it’s something she grew into, piece by piece, over a lifetime of small, meaningful gestures. As a child, she didn’t dream of a career in care giving, but even then, the instinct to care was already there. Whether it was offering to carry a neighbor’s groceries, running small errands for elders on her block, or simply sitting and listening when someone needed to talk, Henrietta was already learning what compassionate elder care looks like in its purest form.

That instinct deepened when she transitioned from caring for her neighbors to helping her mother, who developed dementia. Supporting her mother through the challenges of memory loss lit a fire within Henrietta—not only to help her navigate that difficult journey, but to offer the same comfort, patience, and reassurance to others facing similar circumstances. This experience led her into her first role in assisted living, where everything clicked and her calling became clear.

Now, years into her work with Home Instead, Henrietta doesn’t just show up—she shows up with her heart. As a dedicated care professional, she understands that care giving isn’t a task; it’s a conversation, a relationship, and a rhythm you learn to move with. One of her most memorable bonds is with Mr. C, a spirited gentleman living with diabetes—and a habit of trying to dodge his exercise routines. Henrietta quickly saw through his attempts to sidestep what he didn’t want to do, but instead of scolding, she met him with humor and clever persistence. One afternoon, Mr. C tried to fib his way out of a workout. Henrietta, playing along, helped cover for him—until his wife caught them both. The three now laugh about it regularly, with Mr. C good-naturedly admitting defeat and Henrietta chiming in with her go-to phrase: “Happy wife, happy life!” Beneath the jokes lies genuine care, as Henrietta knows how important it is to keep a close eye on Mr. C’s health and well-being.
