"I just want to take this moment to express our family's gratitude to Home Instead for their selfless care and positive energy. Our caregiver visits once a week to help with the bath. Then, she helps out with cleaning, organizing, walking the dog and whatever we need that particular week. She is always happy to see us.
I was born and raised in Omaha, NE, just two hours up the road from St. Joe. Over the years, I have come to know the St. Joseph community through countless trips to Kansas City. I happen to be an avid Royals and Chiefs fan, so it brings me great joy to see the pride of both teams in the St. Joe community. I earned a Business degree from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln and have since spent more than 23 years in the business and service environment. The most important lessons I’ve learned to this point are to surround yourself with good people, treat everyone with dignity and respect, encourage growth and development in others, be honest and fair, keep your word, serve others and always have faith. Business ownership has been a dream of mine for years and that dream has become a reality by serving seniors in NW Missouri and NE Kansas. Turning this dream into reality would not be possible without the support of my family, however, so below is a short overview of those that mean the most to me.
My wife, Barbara, is my best friend and the love of my life. She is my confidant and inspiration to be the best that I can be for others. Barbara appreciates the little things in life and is one of the most caring people you will ever meet. When the time is right, she hopes to join me in this mission of enhancing the lives of seniors. My daughter, Emma, is a student-athlete at your very own, Missouri Western. I am so proud of the young lady she has become, her work ethic and her many accomplishments. She is a 4.0 student and quite the softball player. Emma is pursuing a degree in Accounting. My son, Ethan, is in the process of finishing up his high school career. I am quite proud of Ethan as well, as he evolves into a fine young man. His interests are conversation, politics, friends, video games and counting the days to college. He also has a keen interest in business and is eager to learn about franchising and serving seniors. Ethan had a health scare in 2010, so we are blessed to have him healthy and active today. My step-daughter, Lauren, is enjoying her high school years as well. I am quite proud of Lauren too, as she evolves into a fine young lady. Lauren is independent, smart, sociable and fashionable. I have always been impressed by her ability to introduce herself to anyone, shake their hand and look them straight in the eye. Her confidence and ability to build relationships will serve her well. Lauren, too, is counting the days to college. My family is kind-hearted and generous. It brings them joy to serve others.
My family has also experienced hardship over the last 4 years, with the loss of 3 grandparents and my father-in-law. My grandparents all lived long, commendable lives. They were small-town folks, who believed in faith, relationships, serving others and an honest day’s work. Seeing my parents serve the role of family caregiver in the last years of my grandparents’ lives showed me how real the need is for quality senior care. This made it even more personal for me. It’s so important to care for seniors, so daughters and sons can be just that. I miss my grandparents deeply, but look forward to giving back and enhancing lives in their name. The life of my father-in-law was cut short by cancer. He was a great man, who served his country in Vietnam and would give you the shirt off his back. He had a witty personality and loved making people smile. Towards the end of his life, it was quite inspirational to see how many people came forward to share a story of how he had impacted their life. He will be missed deeply as well.
