Our Home Instead Senior Care story began many years
ago. I, Wynn, was searching for something meaningful, a career and
journey that I was passionate about. In the late 90’s my parents were
caring for Great Aunt Helena. She lived in Monroe, Michigan and my
parents were living in Manitou Beach, Michigan. It was a round trip of
over two hours. Living with Parkinson’s disease she was only interested
in living out the rest of her life in her home residence of more than
forty years. It was difficult managing and supporting her wishes, like
many families face. My parents were able to help her carry out her
wishes. With this experience we knew that Helena wasn’t the only one
that could use some extra assistance helping her remain safe and
independent in her home. We spent more than a year researching Senior
Care and Home Care. We found that the Home Instead Senior Care
franchise network was the best option for us and the community that we
serve. We have dedicated our life and the last ten years to helping
clients and families just like ours.
Rakael has been with HISC since 2004. Since then she has worked in various roles, currently as the Client Care Coordinator. Her favorite part of the job is helping clients to remain living in their own homes. Rakael is always willing to help, whether in the office, or with any of the clients’ needs. She is a relentless client advocate, always placing the needs of the clients first. Her role and never ending goal is to be the best community resource she can possibly be.
I, Lisa, have been with Home Instead Senior care since August 2017, though I do have a 20yr work history in the health care industry with Home Infusion services, my Service Coordinator position has been a whole new learning experience for me. I am a proud mother of a daughter (Amanda) who is getting married in October 2018, then will graduate in May of 2019 from Michigan State University with her degree in Environmental Biology and Zoology, which makes me one very HAPPY Spartan, as I bleed green! Football season is my favorite time of the year. I love to bake and cook for anybody who enjoys eating, which is just about everyone! A good friend of mine once said "nothing taste better than a little bit of lovin' from Lisa's Oven." Here at Home Instead I bake a treat for every payday, just my little way of saying "thank you" to all of our caregivers who are out in the field every day being the heart of our business.
I love the water and swimming was a big part of my life growing up since the tender age of 4, you could find me taking swim lessons all year long, repeating classes over and over both at the local high school pool and the YWCA. My Grandpa LaFay helped build the Mackinaw Bridge here in Michigan, and I first became a caregiver at the age of 11 when he was diagnosed with lung cancer. I loved sitting with him on days that my grandma had to work, listening to stories of his life. My maternal Grandmother suffered with Alzheimer's for almost 20 yrs. It was a true life struggle to help take care of her and to watch her fade away into someone who didn't know me anymore. She was the driving force behind my swimming passion and always made sure that I had the funds to sign up for as many swim classes as I wanted to take. I currently am in a caregiver role for a friend who has been undergoing chemo for colon cancer. I cook for him every 2 weeks so that he will be sure to eat and keep his strength up. Happy to report that he lost no weight during his 8wk treatment and since treatment has ended (with all cancer cleared) he has now gained about 15 lbs and doctors are very happy!
I have 3 dogs - Bruiser, Max and Meatball, along with a cat (Tucker) who rules the house! I really have always just wanted to make a difference in people's lives whether big or small, so I try to live every day with that thought. My favorite quote is "Be the change you wish to see in this world" -Ghandi.
I, Toni, am a graduate of Aquinas College with a Bachelor's Degree in both Business Administration and Community Leadership. I started working with Home Instead in April 2011 as Staff Coordinator. After the birth of my twins, Truman and Claire, I resigned as Staff Coordinator and took a position as an On Call Supervisor in order to stay home with my children. Besides working with Home Instead, I am a stay at home mom as well as a business owner (dog grooming), which I also do from home. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, volunteering with the American Legion, and soaking up as much sun as possible on Lake Huron.
"I am continually struck by the professionalism, high level of caring and exemplary caregivers that I have met from Home Instead. My mom couldn't live without them, and neither could I.
