  3. Alzheimer's Action Day

Today, 35 million people suffer from dementia and more than 5 million of those people have Alzheimer’s disease. Today, September 21, is Alzheimer’s Action Day, a part of World Alzheimer’s Month in September. We encourage you to wear purple today in recognition of Alzheimer’s Action Day. Turn your Facebook profile picture purple and show your support for this devastating disease.

Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth leading cause of death among all ages in the United States and the fifth leading cause of death for those aged 65 and older. It’s the only cause of death among the top 10 deadly diseases in America that doesn’t have a cure, a way to slow its progression or a way to prevent its onset.

Celebrities and people from all walks of life are joining the fight against this devastating disease—and you can, too. Visit www.alz.org to learn more or visit http://www.youtube.com/actionalz#p/search/0/SNHsBSKjg80.

Locally, you can show your support in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease by supporting Home Instead Senior Care’s team in the Phoenix Alzheimer’s Walk on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011. You can walk with us or contribute online. Visit www.homeinstead.com/eastvalley or http://www.kintera.org/FAF/home/default.asp?ievent=454669  to learn more. Together, we will win this battle.
