Amanda Dodson, Service & Training Coordinator

Amanda Dodson, Service & Training Coordinator

Amanda became interested in health sciences and gerontology when she attended college.  While attending Azusa Pacific University, she majored in Applied Exercise Science and completed an internship with the California State University Fullerton Fall Prevention program through the Center for Successful Aging.  The program's integral training focused on the promotion of senior vitality, the reduction of disability and frailty in later life, and education on whole-person wellness.  During a summer break, Amanda began volunteering with a national Hospice organization where she learned the art of caregiving and its effect on patients who were nearing the end of life.  After her Bachelor's Degree, Amanda furthered her interaction with seniors when she worked as a certified personal trainer.  She integrated functional movement, balance training, and social wellness into her fitness programs and saw the significant impact it had on her aging clients.  Simultaneously, she began her journey as an educator by guest lecturing on fitness at the University of La Verne and became a teacher for the World Instructor Training School for fitness professionals.  She is currently working on her Masters in Organizational Psychology at APU.

At Home Instead, Amanda uses her knowledge of wellness and love for teaching to educate our CAREGivers and make a difference in the lives of our seniors.  She currently performs dual roles for us:  Amanda is responsible for assisting prospective clients & family members, scheduling service with an emphasis on creating extraordinary matches between our CAREGivers and clients and conducting in-home introductions of CAREGivers to clients; She is also responsible for content customization, coordination and delivery of all training programs for our CAREGivers.

In her spare time, Amanda enjoys spending time with her family and doing anything outdoors!

Rushika Mediwake, Owner/Director

Rushika Mediwake, Owner/Director Rushika grew up and has lived in the San Gabriel Valley for much of her life. Although her previous corporate career has taken her all around the country, her heart truly remained in this area as “it was always comforting to return to the place I love”.  As a graduate of the University of Southern California with a Degree in Business Administration, she spent 29 years working in various management positions with GTE Corporation and Verizon Communications.  Her corporate resume includes extensive experience in marketing, product management, customer care, sales support, billing and operations management.

For many years, she had felt a strong desire to work in some capacity that would allow her to serve seniors, while guiding a team and bettering the community.  Then her mother was diagnosed with cancer and Rushika became her primary caregiver and got firsthand experience of the importance of a caregiver’s role and the impact they had in the life of a senior. “This experience truly changed my life and showed me how my mother’s quality of life was improved as she was able to spend her last years in her own home. Having many seniors in my extended family struggling with dementia and other aging ailments, I know how challenged families are to get proper care for their loved ones. I consider myself blessed with the opportunity to own a Home Instead Senior Care franchise and give back in a unique and rewarding way.”  Rushika is the owner and director of operations with a vision of delivering exceptional care to our clients, being the leading trusted advisor to families and being the best caregiving resource in our community.

Rushika enjoys spending time with family and friends, cooking, doing volunteer work and travelling the world!
