Her Heart is in Her Work.

Gail Romines is originally from Massachusetts and has been enjoying the Florida sunshine since relocating here in 1981. Gail and her husband have eight cats, but she believes that three of them think that they are dogs.  She enjoys being a foster Mom for physically and mentally challenged kids.

Gail tells me that she has lived a life full of great experiences and learning as she is a retired Army volunteer. Gail remains an avid volunteer in many veteran programs so that she stays connected and involved. She also has experience in transportation, communications, Dental and Medical Assistant, and was a prior Certified Nursing Assistant.  When asked to tell me a bit about herself, Gail first tells me that she is a night owl; then she laughingly informed me that she is one of the old timers here at Home Instead Senior Care. She found and became a part of Home Instead Senior Care family over twelve years ago.

Her love for this profession and her position shine through whenever she speaks of being part of the Daytona Home Instead Senior Care team.  Building relationships and sharing her heart are two reasons why Gail came to Home Instead, she proudly speaks that her heart is in her work. She loves to give back and feels that working with seniors, learning about their life moments and being able to help them enjoy their life today, is a way to do that.  Gail likes to listen to her clients speak of their memories and often finds that many have had military backgrounds.  I can hear a smile in her voice as she tells me that one of her favorite clients worked in the Scottish military. She shared with me that she, "never ever grew tired of hearing him talk about his life experiences and tails of Scottish military life". Gail willingly takes the lead and is able to handle all situations no matter how difficult. Her dedication to her profession and her clients has prompted many families to write recognition letters, to the Management of Home Instead, expressing their gratitude for the professionalism and knowledge that Gail shares with them and their loved ones.

The Home Instead office staff stated that they feel that Gail takes the lead and builds trust as she is always willing to do what is needed. She will pick up a shift on a moment's notice and is always on time. Gail works hard, she is respectful, and knows the importance of being informed. She takes the time to read the Client profiles completely, and being the great CAREGiver that she is, she always puts the clients' needs first. These are just a few of the reasons why the Home Instead Team is proud to announce that Gail has been chosen to be our October CAREGiver of the Month.

A goal for her future is to set aside the time to work more with the computer. She shared that one of the things she likes about working here at Home Instead is that the co-workers and staff are always friendly. Training and other opportunities allow her the time to meet other CAREGivers and spend some time getting to know one another, but she wishes that she had time every now and again to meet her new friends for lunch or coffee. Working the night shift doesn't allow much time for keeping up so she wants to be able to learn more on the computer in order to use it to keep in better touch socially.
