I smile, they smile, we laugh together.

Kathy has been in the medical field for many years. In December of 2001, Kathy moved from the state of Indiana to sunny Florida. In Indiana, Kathy was a Registered Nurse. Moving to FL, Kathy found herself working as a travel nurse. Once Kathy decided to officially retire, after 2 months of retirement, she became bored and applied with Home Instead Senior Care.  Kathy joined the Daytona Beach, Home Instead Senior Care family in May 2017. She found out quickly that working at Home Instead Senior Care was a very rewarding career choice.  Kathy tells us that she loves the elderly and helping them with all of their daily basic needs.  When a client smiles and says, "Thank you", she knows they mean it.  "One of my daily goals when working with a client, is to make them smile! They smile, I smile, and then we laugh together"! She gains an emotional connection with her clients easily.  "This position helps me to continue to touch lives".

Kathy was asked about her most memorable experience.  She spoke about a time when she had to take a client to the hospital after a fall.  The client was bleeding and very frightened.  She had to get sutures for a skin tear.  Kathy held her hand and talked to her about her grandson and kept her distracted from the procedure.  The client was very relieved by the distraction and the comfort she provided. Kathy Shared her Heart, and they developed a trusting bond that continued after the experience.

Kathy continues to Build Trust, not only with her clients, but with the office staff as well.  She has no sense of negativity and knows she can rely on the staff to support her.  Her relationships with her clients and the office staff are based on respect.  She explains to the clients what she is doing for them, and she asks what they would like done. With the office personell, Kathy keeps everyone up to date with the progression of her client's everchanging situations.

Kathy is interested in Taking the Lead and using her vast experience as a nurse to help other CareGivers.  She feels that sharing her thoughts on professionalism would be beneficial and can possibly open the door to starting that rewarding Client CAREGiver bond.  The way that clients are introduced to their caregivers is the perfect opportunity to start the process of building that foundation of comfort and trust.

We are honored to announce that Kathy Major is our January CAREGiver of the Month.

Congratulations Kathy!
