From there, the Home Instead Green Bay, WI develops a personalized care plan, and a registered nurse provides guidance to specially trained Care Pros who carry it out with consistency and respect. It’s care that goes beyond the basics—while staying focused on what matters most: helping you live safely and independently at home.

Nurse-directed Care FAQs
Nurse Directed Services (NDS) means a Home Instead registered nurse reviews the client's needs, creates an authorized care plan and trains designated Care Pros to perform specific tasks under RN oversight. In Green Bay that can include oxygen therapy, medication administration and diabetes or glucose testing management.
It is not skilled nursing. The RN decides which tasks are appropriate for each client and which Care Pros are NDS-certified to carry them out.
When the NDS plan authorizes it, yes. David's Care Pros were trained to check blood sugars, administer insulin and record results as his plan required — work supervised through the RN's NDS process rather than left to untrained guesswork.
Families should ask during the consultation whether their loved one's needs fit an NDS plan; not every situation qualifies.
The RN conducts classroom training and then individualized, client-specific training for Care Pros who need to be NDS-certified for authorized tasks. That sequence happens before those Care Pros begin the hands-on work in the home.
Combined with the office's broader quality assurance program, NDS is designed for accountability — not informal "help with meds."
Skilled nursing is a different license category. NDS keeps clinical oversight with a registered nurse while trained Care Pros carry out authorized non-skilled or nurse-directed tasks in the home care setting.
For many Green Bay families, that is the middle path between ordinary companion care and moving into a facility for medication or glucose support.
