Twice-Honored Gina: Job Provides Sense of Accomplishment

Two-time Home Instead® Care Professional of the Month Gina Guynes and her all-time favorite client – her father – have been on the move since Gina earned her first Home Instead franchise award in October 2024. Gina moved about 40 miles from Andrews to the Odessa area. Her father moved from San Angelo to Fort Worth.

“After my move to the Odessa area, I picked up different clients. I am thoroughly enjoying that experience. I have met some amazing people who I have been able to assist,” said Gina, who was selected as the Care Pro of the Month for the second time when Midland-Odessa Engagement and Training Coordinator Rozephyr Jean revealed Gina had won the February honor.

Sharing her thoughts about her favorite client since joining Home Instead in June 2022, Gina admitted with a smile: “Of course, I’d have to say it’d be my father. That’s my opinion even though he’s no longer being assisted by our Home Instead office. He’s receiving help from one of the Home Instead franchises in Fort Worth. He and I joke about who provides the best care, and I know he is partial to our Midland-Odessa office. Maybe that’s because his daughter – me – works for Midland-Odessa. Despite the distance, I still provide a lot of care for him.”

“Still” is an important word for Gina, whose desire to take care of people – family members, friends or Home Instead clients – has never diminished. Responding to a question, Gina reaffirmed: “I still love my job and the people for whom I care. This job gives me a sense of accomplishment that I am making a difference in someone’s life.”

Rozephyr, speaking on behalf of the award-winning Home Instead franchise owned by William and Lorena Shensky, said: “We are proud to recognize Gina as our Care Pro of the Month for February! Gina has been making a powerful impact at Home Instead since 2022 through her heart, kindness, compassion and overwhelming willingness to care for our clients.”

Noting Gina’s exceptional senior-care skill set and empathetic nature, Rozephyr pointed out: “Gina works with several of our more complex clients. It is highly unusual if Gina does not work two shifts a day. Her communication with the office is timely and intentional, and she truly seeks to understand how to provide the best possible care. She never stops learning even more about our profession, which has so many different challenges.”

Rozephyr added: “Every day, Gina arrives with a positive attitude and gives her all to her clients. She has gone above and beyond the call of duty for both her clients and our Home Instead team. Thank you, Gina, for your dedication, professionalism and compassionate spirit. We are so grateful to have you as part of our Home Instead family that serves Midland, Odessa and the rest of the Permian Basin!”

There is nothing complex about Gina’s approach to senior care. It is always the same: Provide help as if the person is a family member. Family caregiving has been a testing ground for Gina’s professional journey. She recalled when a family member put her patience to a test. “As an unpaid family caregiver, I cared for my mother, who had dementia. While I was caring for her one day, I was crocheting and she was watching me. She got up and asked me if she could try. I said yes and handed her the yarn and such. She then proceeded to take apart all I had done. She was so tickled she’d done that. It’s one of my favorite memories,” Gina said with a laugh.

Gina added: “I find immense satisfaction in my job. I especially enjoy the cranky ones.”

When Gina was honored in 2024, Home Instead staff member Imelda Hawkins focused on Gina’s patience, empathy and compassion in the face of challenging times that inevitably arise. “Gina exemplifies what it means to be a dedicated caregiver. To those for whom Gina cares, her passion, understanding and genuine commitment shines through in everything she does,” said Imelda, the franchise’s Human Resources Director and Recruitment Coordinator.

Gina said: “This company is the best I have ever worked for. I love the care and attention Home Instead provides its clients and how well the Home Instead management cares for its employees.”
