Care Professional of the Month Robin Broyles knows how it feels “to hit it out of the park” and “spike the ball in the end zone.” The sports metaphors colorfully describe “doing something extremely well, achieving great success or exceeding expectations.” They fit Robin’s skilled senior-care work perfectly, and the honored Care Pro smiles when she thinks of such things while drawing on memories of her first client at Home Instead® of south-central Houston.

“Mr. D., my first client, loved baseball and football. His favorite teams were pro football’s Houston Texans and pro baseball’s Houston Astros. He would record the Texans’ football games, and we would watch them together. That made his day. He was always in a good mood, so it made my day. When he saw me come through the door at the start of my Home Instead shift, it made him smile. Rest in peace, Mr. D.,” Robin said.

When it came time to move on to other clients, Robin tucked thoughts of those precious times with Mr. D. into the recesses of her big, compassionate heart. Robin possesses a vast reservoir of empathy, a nurturing nature and unconditional kindness. She has an unlimited capacity for storing her caregiving memories.

Referring to another client, Robin explained: “Mr. S. is one of a kind. I really couldn’t ask for a better senior to take care of. He is a sweetheart. We play the Scrabble word game every day, and that makes us both happy. I hope I have many years with Mr. S.”

Robin added: “It’s hard not to love the people whom you take care of and possess affection for the families who trust you with their loved ones. That’s a blessing.”

Robin also found a family atmosphere at Home Instead, an award-winning franchise owned by Greg Gomez-Mira. “I have been with Home Instead for nearly three years. Time sure does go by fast when you love your job. I want to thank Home Instead for this opportunity. I enjoy working for the Home Instead staff, and taking care of our seniors makes me feel so good,” Robin said.

From personal experience, Robin knows what a supportive, tight-knit family looks like, and how its members care for each other deeply. “I am a mom of five kids and 15 grandkids, and I have been with my amazing husband for 18 years,” Robin said. “I had a good family caregiving experience while taking good care of my dad before he passed away. I wanted a job with Home Instead because I believed it would be fulfilling. There’s nothing like the feeling of being grafted into another family.”

Home Instead General Manager Destiny Wesley announced Robin’s award. “Home Instead’s mission is to enhance the lives of aging adults and their families, and to pioneer greater professionalism within its care work. Robin has been an important part of our culture, our tightly woven fabric sewn together by special people. She has helped us create a care experience that’s based on human touch, transparency and compassion. Robin displays Home Instead’s guiding principles of ‘Build Trust, Take the Lead and Share Your Heart.’ ”
