There is joy wherever Joy Imo-Jack has planted herself. Her greatest satisfaction and sense of fulfillment come from any opportunity to help someone in need. That’s why Joy is the Care Professional of the Month for January 2026 at owner Greg Gomez-Mira’s award-winning Home Instead® franchise in south-central Houston. Friends, family and acquaintances describe Joy as someone whose natural inclination is to show love, kindness, empathy and support to people around her, especially those in challenging situations.
Joy’s compassion first showed itself when she was a young girl who was eager to make others happy if she could. “My benevolence began during my childhood. I remember vividly from my elementary school days when I frequently gave my snacks to peers who were hungry and didn’t have any snacks to eat,” Joy recalled. “I became a caregiver as early as my teenage years, caring for my sisters’ children while their parents pursued their careers. In college, I occasionally organized charity events to support orphanages in the community.”
Today, Joy has her own children, and she has served as a multi-generational family caregiver. She said: “It’s been an honor to be my children’s custodian, helping them actualize and fulfill their God-given destiny. I also cared for my ailing elderly mother, who temporarily lived with me before she passed on.” Joy continues to support individuals, families and nonprofit organizations. “My inherent traits and passion for lifting up the downtrodden have shaped me into who I am today,” Joy explained, “leading me to pursue a career in social work.”
Nearly two years ago, a friend suggested that Joy consider working for Home Instead. The friend, noting Joy’s career history and family dynamics, encouraged her to apply so she’d be engaged professionally while also receiving the job flexibility to support her children’s academic pursuits and extracurricular activities. Joy said: “After researching Home Instead and its exceptional services, I decided to pursue the idea. I applied and was recruited about a week later. I officially began my duties as a Care Pro on May 1, 2024.”
Joy had been engaged in what she calls “the helping industry” before joining Home Instead. “I have gained several years of experience, both professionally and otherwise, where I have felt led to help,” Joy said. She has been instrumental in creating positive outcomes for her clients and the organizations for whom she has worked. Joy has been part of innovative and transformative social programs and helped overcome social challenges in her previous community.
Joy pointed out: “Basically, my life is devoted to service to humanity, and I have experienced the goodness of God in my life through those services.”
For Joy, her time with Home Instead has been rewarding and fulfilling. “It has allowed me to live out my purpose – supporting our vulnerable seniors with their basic day-to-day needs and activities,” Joy said. “Since my recruitment, I’ve been privileged to work with numerous clients, providing care and support tailored to meet their unique needs, including companionship and sharing the Word of God if they broach the subject. Supporting my clients’ efforts to practice their faith has been a blessing to me.”
Of course, Joy values and respects each client. “I have enjoyed working with my previous clients and continue to enjoy working with my current client,” she said. “I have learned many valuable lessons from my clients that I can use in my future endeavors, such as having a more positive outlook on life and remaining calm in turbulent situations. My commitment to serving my clients with humility and respect has been my code of practice. My priority at work is to always ensure that my clients’ best interests are served.”
