Advancing how we care for those with memory loss.
While medical research works towards treatments for memory issues like Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, there have also been advances in how we care for those living with memory loss. With guidance from Dr. Lakelyn Hogan-Eichenberger, Home Instead’s on-staff gerontologist, we’ve developed a person-centered approach to memory support, uniquely designed to:
- Care for the whole person.
- Honor your loved one’s life before their cognitive decline.
- Help them continue to enjoy activities and hobbies they love.
- Compassionately respond to cognitive and behavioral symptoms.
- Help enhance safety in the home environment.
- Review and adjust care plans as needs change.
Compassionate care begins with a thoughtful care plan.
Over the years, one thing has been clear: no two people experience memory loss the same way. That’s why we take the time to understand your loved one’s needs, routines, and story—so we can create an in-home memory care plan that truly fits your family.

In-home memory care FAQs
Yes. All of our staff receive dementia training annually, and some have earned the Alzheimer’s Association’s essentiALZ® certification.
Dementia is one of the most common care needs we see locally. Home Instead Warwick Care Pros understand that memory loss can require additional patience and skill in redirecting someone so they can remain engaged with familiar activities and routines.
Someone experiencing memory loss may become confused or frustrated with activities that were once familiar. A Care Pro may need to slow down, patiently redirect the person, and help them engage with what’s happening around them rather than pushing through the routine.
That approach is supported by annual dementia training for all of our staff. Some team members have also completed the Alzheimer’s Association’s essentiALZ® certification.
Yes. Our local team works with Hope Alzheimer’s Center in connection with memory support.
Home Instead also supports Hope Alzheimer’s Center and the Alzheimer’s Association as part of our community involvement. These relationships complement the hands-on dementia experience of our Warwick care team.
Patience and redirection are important. Rather than rushing someone through an activity, a Care Pro can change the approach and help the person reconnect with a familiar routine or something they enjoy.
All Home Instead Warwick staff receive annual dementia training, and some have earned the Alzheimer’s Association’s essentiALZ® certification. That preparation is especially relevant because dementia is a common need among the families our team supports.
Yes. When someone needs continuous support, our local team can arrange 24-hour care using schedules such as two 12-hour or three 8-hour care periods.
Continuity is important for these clients. Information is passed between Care Pros, and the Care Pro providing support waits for the next scheduled team member to arrive before leaving.
Cost depends on the individual’s needs and how frequently support is provided. Someone receiving several visits each week will have a different care plan from someone needing 24-hour assistance.
We’ll create the schedule around the individual rather than using a standard dementia-care package. Visit our Cost of Care resource for additional information.
