Companion care to support the whole person.
A little company can go a long way. Maybe you live alone, or you don’t drive as much. Maybe you simply want someone to share in the things you love. Companion care from Home Instead helps you stay connected and engaged with the life you love.
Here’s how companion care can help:
- More connection & less isolation – enjoy friendly conversations and shared moments that reduce loneliness.
- Do more of what you love – from hobbies and games to walks and puzzles, stay engaged with what you enjoy most.
- Extra awareness at home – a regular presence may help notice changes in routines or well-being so families can stay informed.
- Support with daily routines – let us help with meals, light housekeeping, medication reminders, and more.
- Outings and transportation – get a ride to errands, appointments, and community activities.
- Confidence knowing someone is there – benefit from having a caring presence and an extra set of eyes around the house.

How we make companion care feel personal.
Our approach to companion care starts with getting to know you. What are your care needs? What are your hobbies and what brings you joy? Then when it’s time to match you with a vetted Care Pro, we consider compatibility, experience, and skill fit. Because while we want you to get the best care, we also want companionship to feel natural.
From there, care stays personal. Whether it’s a conversation, completing a puzzle, or helping you get around the house, your local Care Pro will show up with warmth and respect.
Friendly companionship on your schedule.

Companion Care Services FAQs
It can be as active as the person wants it to be. We cared for a gentleman with dementia who wished to remain very active. His Care Pro became a good friend and companion — rounds of golf, movies, walks on the beach — helping him live his best life for as long as home remained workable for the family.
Other visits are quieter: shared meals, conversation, errands, or simply a familiar presence so someone is not alone for long stretches of the day.
Matching matters as much in companion care as it does in personal care. We look for a Care Pro whose energy, interests and communication style fit the older adult — not just someone who can fill a time slot.
On the South Shore, that might mean a Care Pro comfortable with outings and community activities, or someone patient with quieter home-based routines. Families can tell us what a good day looks like during the care consultation.
All of our Care Pros hold Alzheimer's Association certification, which means even a companion visit draws on training in behavioral cues, safety awareness and person-centered communication.
The companion role is often the foundation of a longer care relationship. For clients whose needs grow over time, an experienced companion can become a natural anchor for expanded support.
