Why Consistent Client Assignments Matter

In Gonzales, certain aspects of the caregiver position may give you the opportunity to work with the same client on a more regular basis. If you do develop regular client assignments, you may learn the client’s schedule and behavior preferences. However, assignments can change, and you should be prepared for regular changes.

Working with the same clients on a regular basis allows you to develop a relationship with clients; this may be important to you if you’re looking to make a difference in the clients’ lives. Consistency is also important to clients, and caregivers should be flexible to work various schedules.

Benefits of Regular Client Assignments to Clients and Care Pros

Knowing the client’s preferences is valuable when working with that client on a regular basis. The Care Pro may become aware of client’s favorite meals and activities.

There may be other client preferences that the Care Pro isn’t aware of, and regular client visits may help the Care Pro understand the client’s desires and goals. Ultimately, frequent client visits may help develop the client’s quality of life and health.

Frequent client assignments have the potential to make the Care Pro’s job less stressful and unpredictable by allowing the Care Pro to become more familiar with the client’s preferences and needs.

The word is “regular,” not “permanent.”

Circumstances change for clients. Schedules change. A client’s need for assistance may decrease or increase. There are many possible reasons why home care assistance may no longer be needed.

I am interested in understanding the local office’s policies regarding client and caregiver match. Also, it may be prudent to understand why assignment changes occur in order to gain a clearer picture regarding assignment duration.

It is important to have a clear understanding of what is required and what one should expect regarding this type of work.

What Other Things Can Happen in a Week?

Although home care workers may be assigned to work with the same client on a regular basis, routine may vary.

The reason may be that the client no longer needs the same level of assistance and/or the client has requested schedule changes.

The caregiver may need to change his or her regular schedule to work at other times.

Caregiver assignment changes may also occur.

The caregiver should understand the reasons for his or her own availability prior to accepting assignment.

The caregiver should also understand that regular routine may mean working only on certain days of the week or only on certain times of the day. Caregivers should also understand that it may help to work out a schedule with a regular client.

The care pro will try to ensure that the needs of the client and the availability of the care pro are consistent.

So, I would not suggest that someone apply and expect to be placed on a care case and remain there long-term.

Care cases are long-term, but the nature of home care means cases change and evolve.

How do you let someone know about schedule changes?

Communicate those changes as quickly as you are able.

If you know your schedule will change due to school, family or personal commitments, contact the office as soon as you are able to so they can adjust your schedule accordingly.

Don't wait to communicate schedule changes if you know the case will no longer be able to accommodate care.

When communicating schedule changes, be sure to let the office know the specifics of your schedule including the date and time the change occurs, the length of the change, and any schedule constraints.

You do not have to send a lengthy, complicated message to the office.

The message should be long enough to provide the relevant details and constraints of your personal schedule.

It is reasonable to expect a care pro to communicate schedule changes and to provide the office with the opportunity to adjust the pro's schedule based on the pro's constraints.

It is also reasonable to expect the office to communicate anticipated changes to a care pro's schedule and answer pertinent questions prior to the pro starting work.

Our Baton Rouge office, including Gonzales, is allowing applicants to ask questions about anticipated changes to the home care industry and the office's anticipated changes to the hiring process.

It is reasonable to expect care pro's to communicate schedule changes and have the opportunity to adjust their schedules based on the constraints of the care pro's case.

It is also reasonable to expect the office to communicate changes to a care pro's schedule based on the case constraints.

The level of care changes as the client’s condition changes.

The Care Pro should expect changes to a client’s schedule, care plan, and assignment.

Understanding this is part of the tradeoffs of being a care provider.

Working as a care provider means that you work with the same individual and in turn, understand the reason for changes with that client.

The care provider should understand that they may need to change their availability to meet the needs of the client. This may mean that the care provider will no longer be working with their previous client.

Knowing and understanding the needs of the client as part of the assignment gives the care provider a feeling of security.

There are care providers who understand that they should not expect to provide care for an individual client for an extended period of time.

Frequently Asked Questions About Caregiver Jobs in Gonzales

Will I always work with the same client?

Probably not. Care requirements change and may affect your assignment. You should not expect that any of your assignments will last a long time.

How do I evaluate if an assignment is appropriate?

Ask what the client will need and what the care provider will be responsible for in the assignment. You should assess if this work will fit in your schedule and will not affect your other assignments.

I see that your caregiving schedules are week-to-week. Is that always the case?

It varies. Generally, the more flexible you can be the better. If having a schedule you can depend on is important to you, express this when you apply.

If I need to adjust my availability after I start working, how should I let you know?

Let us know as soon as you can. We'd appreciate it if you could also let us know what your old schedule was so we can better understand your new constraints.
