Colleen: ‘Little Things Can Make a Difference to Clients’

Care Professional Colleen Fallon pointed out that small acts of service often matter greatly for seniors. “I had a new client who hadn’t had a haircut in many months. I found a hairdresser for her, made the appointment and drove her there. She was so happy!” said Colleen, who was honored as the August Care Pro of the Month for owner Michael Lammers’ Home Instead® franchise that assists Colorado seniors in Boulder, Broomfield and northwest Adams Counties.

When announcing Colleen’s honor, Home Instead Recruiting and Engagement Coordinator Brenda Munro said: “Colleen is dedicated, compassionate and reliable, and her clients all love her. Colleen embodies Home Instead’s guiding principles of ‘Build Trust, Take the Lead and Share Your Heart.’ For Colleen, touching lives impacts her soul, whether she is providing physical help such as light housekeeping, meal preparation, medication reminders or personal care or if she is offering emotional support in a companionship role.”

Colleen joined Home Instead in April, just four months before achieving her Care Pro of the Month status. “I had interviewed a couple of in-home caregivers who said Home Instead has a good reputation among families and caregivers,” Colleen said. “In my last job, I worked for a medical device company and was very inspired by the company’s commitment to providing safe and effective products to patients.”

Colleen also was motivated to seek a one-on-one care job by helping a friend who found herself in a challenging medical situation. “I took turns, with a couple of other people, in caring for a dear friend while she was on hospice and her husband was going through cancer treatment. She shared with me her emotional journey from thinking she would get better to ultimately accepting her death. She inspired me to pursue caregiving,” Colleen explained.

Colleen’s job fulfillment comes in several different forms. “What I like most about my Care Pro job is learning from my clients. For instance, from ‘It’s OK to store salted butter on the kitchen counter’ to all the ways clients face new limitations with grace,” Colleen said.

Colleen is an important part of the Care Pro team at the Front Range franchise in Louisville, a member of a network comprised of Home Instead, Inc. and its parent company, Honor. With the world’s largest home-care network and the most advanced care platform, Honor and Home Instead are revolutionizing care for older adults, their families and Care Pros. Combined, the network has more than 100,000 Care Pros who are meeting the growing needs of millions of older adults and their families worldwide.

In addition to their strong companionship skills, the Colorado franchise’s Care Pros provide safety assurance, and transportation and errands. Each Care Pro offers personal assistance with grooming, dressing, bathing, cognitive impairment, hospice and mobility support. By expertly doing so, the Care Pros not only assist their clients, but help their families eliminate worry, reduce stress and re-establish personal freedom.
