That's why our team stands ready to serve you any day of the week, at any hour of the day or night. Steven E. Coleman, Owner

Steven E. Coleman, Owner Steve has owned and operated our Asheville-based office since 1997. He relocated from Champaign, Illinois to Asheville to open our doors for the Western North Carolina community's seniors and compassionate caregivers. Steve was previously Director of Latin America Operations for the Archer Daniels Midland Company. In this capacity, he was responsible for marketing and management throughout Mexico, Central and South America. Steve is a graduate of Ohio University where he earned a BS degree in communications. He continues to foster his personal experiences with aging loved ones and blend them with his professional background so that our daily operations in a business - one unlike any other - are smooth and aligned with the core human values of the extended network that Home Instead Senior Care franchisees represent in their own individual communities.​​​

Kate Barr, General Manager

Kate Barr, General Manager Kate is our General Manager and oversees all daily operations for our team. She began her journey with our WNC Home Instead Senior Care office in 2006 after having relocated from the Northeast, where she last worked in Recreational Therapy with older adults suffering from Alzheimer's and other dementias. Kate has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Services, has been an entrepreneur in the hospitality industry, and enjoys being a craftsperson in her leisure time (making warm & cozy corn pillows for all of us to de-stress!). In addition, she serves our local seniors each week by delivering hot meals to those in need through Asheville-Buncombe Meals on Wheels. She ensures that all who come to us are connected with the right information in order to manage the challenges they are faced with. Kate dedicates herself to our mission by doing her best to enhance the lives of aging adults and their families, with diligence and sincerity. At your convenience, Kate will meet you and/or your loved one for the initial Care Consultation, so that you may better understand how Home Instead Senior Care can serve you and your family. Special attention is always given to a customized care plan that will best suit your loved one's needs and preferences. ​

Heather Bauer, Outreach Manager

Heather Bauer, Outreach Manager ​A team member since 2010, Heather nurtures our relationships in the community by offering educational programs, caregiver support, and  representing our Company at local events.  To ensure beneficial and informative information is being shared with potential CAREGivers, clients and our referral providers, Heather seeks to understand the needs of each individual .  She was the firstborn grandchild on both sides of her family and spent much time with grandparents and great-grandparents before moving to North Carolina in 1991. At an early age she had gained awareness of Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Emphysema, and other common conditions that many of our clients and their families face. Heather's relationship with Home Instead Senior Care began in Wilmington, NC in 2007 as a CAREGiver where she was trained under the George C. Glenner Alzheimer's program. After having graduated from UNC-Wilmington with a degree in English, she remained inspired to continue serving the senior population as a career. She served as Service Coordinator in Wilmington from 2008-2010 where her duties included staffing and Quality Assurance.  Heather's primary community service through Home Instead includes Dementia Friendly WNC, WNC Falls Prevention Coalition, Family Caregiver Advisory Council, A Matter of Balance Master Trainer and TRIAD. Sharon Ringo, Office Manager

Sharon Ringo, Office Manager

​As our Office Manager, Sharon dedicates much of her time to billing and payroll.  Sharon joined us in 2012 after having worked with the Naples, FL Home Instead office for six years. She served as their Staff Coordinator and continues to "Live Home Instead" every day here in beautiful Asheville. Her husband Don retired from the police department and they moved to be nearer family in Cashiers. Sharon's passion for seniors came from a lifelong compassion for people and her experiences in a family hair salon. In their business, Sharon received many elder clients and developed relationships that were touchstones for what was to come. Leading her to Home Instead Senior Care, her heart was in the sharing of stories and values. Here in the mountains she enjoys driving the parkway, spending time with her family, and exploring the healing opportunities that our community offers. She is a lover of ladybugs, wears her heart on her sleeve, and is exceptionally grateful for her blessed life.


Michelle Powell, Staffing Supervisor

Michelle Powell, Staffing Supervisor Michelle is one of two "puzzle masters" who coordinate schedules for all of our clients and CAREGivers according to their needs for scheduling, compatibility and other matching factors.  Michelle was born and raised in a small town on the outskirts of Asheville by her grandparents and great-grandmother. Because of the generation gap, she found herself helping them at an early age with things that slowly became more challenging for them as they got older. She knew from the beginning that she loved helping others and how rewarding it is to give back. Michelle graduated from the School of Illinois with a degree in Psychology. She worked in direct sales for years, before joining our team in May 2013. Michelle is also a mother of two precious little girls. She was privileged enough to stay home to raise them through their infant and toddler years. While raising two beautiful lives she also was experiencing end-of-life care as her great grandmother's journey slowly came to an end. This bittersweet experience had a huge impact on her life. Michelle moved away from the corporate world into something more rewarding and fulfilling...She couldn't be happier to work for such a great company and all that it stands for. She strives to live each day to the fullest with her children, teaching them to be kind-hearted and humble. She also serves as one of our on-call Supervisors. ​

Terri Mace, HR Assistant

Terri Mace, HR Assistant

Terri's excellence in her journey with us has led her into the office, first as Administrative Assistant, then as Staff Coordinator, and now as HR Assistant.

Terri screens potential CAREGivers and helps them through our onboarding. She ensures that quality is reflected from the very first impression throughout the time each employee spends with us, ensuring they feel like family all the way. Terri has always had a place in her heart for seniors. She loves to hear the recollections of the "good ol' days" and was close with both sets of her grandparents. Growing up she took trips from Kentucky almost every weekend to see them in Cincinnati. She worked in the hotel industry where she built a dedication for quality service and professionalism. She became a stay-at-home mother of five. She found Home Instead Senior Care through a church friend and decided to come to work as a CAREGiver in 2012. She has been thankful ever since, as she commits to Living Home Instead. Terri is personable, fun-loving, and intuitive. She has a heartfelt understanding of the needs of seniors and the experience to reinforce her ability to make excellent CAREGiver/client matches. Terri understands leading with her heart and finds a connection with all whom she comes in contact with. She is also an On-Call Supervisor.


Carly Rasnick, Human Resource Coordinator

Carly Rasnick, Human Resource Coordinator

​Carly screens all applicants, facilitates our onboarding process and ensures that each candidate is thoroughly trained in our world-class training program. Her duties include ensuring that our selection process meets the highest standards for hiring, training, and development of our professional CAREGivers. ​​Born and raised in the foothills of the NC mountains, Carly moved to Asheville in 2010 to attend UNC-Asheville as a Psychology major. She grew up with very close relationships to her grandparents and, subsequently, developed great respect for the senior population from a very young age. Her grandparents' needs led her to advance her knowledge in diabetes, cancer, and advanced stroke care.  Knowing that she would love to do everything in her power to fulfill her own mission to enhance the lives of elders in service, she chose to complete and internship at a local Adult Day center. The experience led her down the path of caregiving and provided her with intimate knowledge of seniors and, specifically, dementia care. She was hired as a full-time employee after her internship was over, graduated wither her BA in Psychology, and advanced her career with Home Instead Senior Care. She is eternally grateful for her part in our Home Instead family and the growth personally and profess​​​​ionally she continues to experience in working with older adults during their legacy years. ​


Judith Mackie, RN Supervisor & Client Care Coordinator

Judith Mackie, RN Supervisor & Client Care Coordinator

Judith joined our team in January 2018 as our RN Supervisor & Personal Care Client Care Coordinator.  She obtained her initial training at Duke University Medical Center and continued at the University of New Hampshire. Judith has been working in healthcare for almost 30 years, with previous positions held at Duke Medical Center, Catholic Medical Center and at Concord Hospital in NH. Lucky for us, for the last 15 years Judith has concentrated her nursing efforts and passion on home care as part of the healthcare continuum. Judith also has excellent proficiency and experience educating the community and supporting the needs of people living with Alzheimer's Disease and other Dementias. 

Judith visits with each of our Personal Care clients to assess and determine the level of hands-on assistance that may be required (ADL support). She also trains and supervises our In-Home Aides & CNAs for their skills, competencies, and regular performance. She creates tailored Care Plans with each client so that their personal goals are respectfully incorporated into their daily routines and updated as often as needed.

Personally, Judith and her family enjoy organic gardening, creative cooking and hiking. 


Rhonda Whiteside, Staff Coordinator

Rhonda Whiteside, Staff Coordinator

Rhonda started with Home Instead Senior Care in 2016 as a CAREGiver before accepting the position of Staff Coordinator in May 2018. She was born and raised in Hendersonville and is a dedicated family woman and animal lover. Rhonda is a driven woman who always wants the best for others. She has many gifts, both artistic and interpersonal. Having painted five Bearfootin’ Bears for Historic Downtown Hendersonville and designing t-shirts for the NC Apple Festival in 2013, Rhonda’s talents are rooted in her amazing gift of giving. Rhonda has a deep understandintg of the needs of our local families. She raised her daughter, Kaitlyn, as a stay-at-home mom until she left for college. She has always been very close with her grandparents and is a breast cancer survivor. Her experiences have led her to Home Instead Senior Care because of the core values of growth, dignity, respect, and honoring God in all we do.

Rhonda’s experiences in life as well as her dedication to our clients give her a wonderful sense of understanding and purpose as Staff Coordinator. We are grateful for her ability to listen, her compassion, integrity and her true devotion to aging adults and their families. 



Nicole Farrell, Client Care Coordinator

Nicole Farrell, Client Care Coordinator

Nicole started at Home Instead Senior Care in July of 2018. She has been living in the Asheville area since 2013. Nicole grew up in Cave Creek, Arizona and graduated from Prescott College with a Bachelor's in Horticultural Therapy with an emphasis in Elder Care. She fell in love with the senior population while completing her yearlong internship at the Margaret T. Morris Center in Prescott, Arizona. After taking a short break to work with a local domestic violence shelter and running operations for an apparel company, she has been drawn back to the senior population to pursue a more fulfilling job. Nicole is a lover of the outdoors and enjoys spending time with friends, family and her cat Cheeto.
