A history of caring.

Home Instead® was founded in 1994 by Paul and Lori Hogan after their family experienced firsthand how meaningful the right support at home could be.

What began with care for Paul’s nearly 90-year-old grandmother grew into a home care network focused on helping older adults live at home with greater independence, connection and support.

How we’re doing it

For more than 30 years, Home Instead has helped older adults live at home with personalized, relationship-based care.

Local Home Instead teams get to know each person’s needs, routines and preferences, then create a customized care plan designed to support daily life, independence and meaningful connection.

Care Pros can provide companionship, personal care, Alzheimer’s and dementia support and other non-medical services based on individual needs and local availability.

Our History

It started with one family

In 1994, Paul and Lori Hogan began caring for Paul’s nearly 90-year-old grandmother.

They saw how important it was for her to remain connected to her home, routines and independence—and how challenging it could be for families to provide all the support an older loved one needed on their own.

That experience inspired the Hogans to found Home Instead in Omaha, Nebraska.

Their idea was simple: older adults should be able to receive dependable, personalized care at home from people who take the time to know them.

As more families looked for that kind of support, Home Instead grew through a network of independently owned and operated local offices.

More than 30 years later, that family experience still shapes how Home Instead approaches care.

Looking forward

Home Instead and Honor

In 2021, Home Instead became part of Honor, beginning a new chapter in the Home Instead story.

Together, the organizations bring Home Instead’s relationship-based approach to care together with Honor’s technology and home care operations expertise.

Today, that work continues with a shared focus on strengthening the home care experience for older adults, families, Care Pros and local offices.

Technology can help make care easier to coordinate. But the most important part of care remains human: knowing someone, understanding what matters to them and providing support that fits their life.

Home Instead gives back

Caring beyond the care visit

Home Instead’s commitment to older adults extends beyond the people who receive our home care.

Across the network, local offices support older adults and family caregivers through community programs, education, volunteer involvement and partnerships.

For families looking for guidance, Home Instead also provides free resources designed to make conversations about aging, care and planning a little easier.
