Indoor activities become more important during these winter months. Activities like watching great movies are great for those needing senior care. Ventura, CA residents are very near the movie studios and lots that produced some of the world’s great winter movies.

Senior home caregivers and those who are live-in caregivers for seniors near Ventura, CA are great at giving help when it comes to movie options. They can help find and play some great films in the homes of those in need of senior companion care. Ventura, CA has access to trained, compassionate CAREGivers from Home Instead, who give the best personal elderly care.

The CAREGivers of Home Instead would be happy to stay with seniors and watch great movies, and they can even provide some suggestions! Here are a few great winter-themed movies, but there are so many more.

Our first suggestion is the classic film White Christmas starring Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney, and Vera Ellen. Set in an idyllic New England winter scene, it includes unforgettable dance numbers and songs, though it was not the first movie to feature the Bing Crosby classic “White Christmas” — that song was first featured in the earlier film Holiday Inn. We never experience a white Christmas here in Southern California, but those who need residential assisted living don’t mind that at all!

Our next suggestion is the comedy Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. This classic stars Steve Allen and John Candy as a couple of travelers who get stranded in Wichita when they need to get to Chicago. The two main characters have a crazy adventure as they try to get home for Thanksgiving. But be careful: only watch this one if you are healthy enough to laugh a LOT when visited by your elderly companion care. Ventura, CA is nowhere near Wichita and Chicago, but laughter travels well!

Another winter watching essential is A Christmas Story. Set in Chicago (but filmed in Cleveland, Ohio), nine-year-old Ralphie has to navigate the difficulties of childhood, and the glory of Christmas morning in his loving middle-class home. But don’t worry: Ralphie manages not to shoot his eye out.

And our final winter movie suggestion is Grumpy Old Men. Starring Jack Lemon, Walter Matthau, and Ann Margaret at their later-career best, this film is a hilarious look at lifelong friendship, never-ending practical jokes, and many situations and themes that would be familiar to those who need senior day care. Ventura, CA doesn’t get snow as they do in Minnesota, but those Minnesotans can keep it! We’ll just enjoy the laughs!
