How great that the holiday season is here again. Southern California, of course, never gets a white Christmas, but that’s OK for elderly care! Ventura, CA seniors don’t have to contend with snow and ice, and bone-chilling cold doesn’t end outdoor activities.

But that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy the holidays! Nostalgic holidays and Christmas music has been a big part of life for many of us since long before we ever considered personal care for older adults. Ventura, CA families likely have great memories of their own.

And finding the right holiday music could even help those in Alzheimer’s elderly care or dementia elderly care. Comfortable memories from the past may be sparked, bringing a pleasant state to one suffering from these conditions.

We have a few suggestions on great American artists who give some of the most memorable performances of great holiday and Christmas tunes.

The first is crooner Andy Williams. He did two Christmas albums that can be played by an elderly companion or family member, but his White Christmas album is the better of the two He starts with a stirring rendition of “Sleigh Ride,” which includes a meditative singing of “Some Children See Him,” than the classic tune “My Favorite Things,” and he ends with an invigorating rendition of “The Bells of St. Mary’s.” Williams is so smoother and at his best.

The country artist Johnny Cash is next up, and he provides some great music to be played by a personal companion for the elderly. Ventura, CA residents may remember fondly his clear baritone giving honest interpretations of many Christmas classics, like “Joy to the World,” “Silent Night,” “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day,” “O Come All Ye Faithful,” and so many others.

And we can’t close this shortlist without highlighting the classic crooner himself, Bing Crosby. Which singer would be better to bring out the memories during private respite care for the elderly than Bing? His version of Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas” is still the number-one-selling single of all time! He also did albums with lots of other great Christmas classics, such as “Silent Night,” “Jingle Bells,” “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” “Adeste Fideles,” “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” and many, many others.

All of these classic singers and others — Frank Sinatra, Mel Torme, Ella Fitzgerald, Perry Como, Lena Horne, and even more recent artists — can be found online via Youtube, Spotify, and many other music services.
