Positive News from Caregivers and Family

The Home Instead team has been on the front lines of the fight to protect older Americans by providing companionship while ensuring a safe and hygienic home environment with a range of senior personal care services. Ventura, CA seniors may have struggled this year, but many caregivers and family members have noticed the resilience of older adults and the inventive ways they’ve found to keep in touch. For example, there are stories of CAREGivers helping seniors tap into old hobbies or passions such as painting, photography, or writing to help stay positive and overcome the feelings of isolation that many have experienced this year. And who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks? In the last year, even many tech-averse seniors have learned how to do things like video calling and logging in to watch parties to keep in touch with family members who weren’t able to visit like they normally would.

The Positive Numbers Don’t Lie

While there are plenty of personal stories about silver linings from the last year, there are also plenty of positive statistics in the world of residential assisted living. Ventura, CA seniors are being vaccinated at a very high rate, for starters, which matches the trend across the nation. More than 70 percent of American seniors have had at least their first dose of the vaccine as of March 25 and more families are now able to get together with their elderly loved ones. Home Instead also recently conducted a survey of older adults and found many positive statistics to report. Approximately 66 percent of older adults are feeling more hopeful about 2021 compared to 2020 and 72 percent of older adults say they will continue using technology more to keep in touch with friends and family.
