Sue Baines has a stellar track record with two Home Instead® franchises during the past 10 years. She was chosen as the June 2017 Care Professional of the Month with Home Instead of Corpus Christi, Texas. Sue moved back home to Victoria, Texas, where Recruiting and Retention Coordinator Maegan Coldewey honored Sue twice as Care Pro of the Month, in May 2019 and in April 2023. In all, Sue has been a senior-care professional for more than 31 years.
Sue never discusses her career without bringing up her great-grandmother.
“This is a labor of love, a journey I really have embraced. I tell everyone my great-grandmother raised me and has been at the center of what I do. She is the greatest and sweetest woman I’ve ever known. She taught me everything I know. She showed me my cooking and baking skills,” Sue explained.
“My great-grandmother was almost 70 years old when she took on her role as my mommy. I’ll be forever grateful and thankful to her. As a result of what she did, caring for the elderly and or the disabled makes me feel as if I’m giving back to the one woman who gave me a better life, along with wisdom and guidance. She also taught me to always keep God first.”
Sue joined Home Instead of Victoria on July 14, 2018. “I went online and saw Victoria also had a franchise, so I applied. I received a call the very next day and immediately went in for the interview. I’m still here, almost five years later, because one-on-one care is the best kind and the staff consists of good people,” Sue said. “I worked in nursing homes as a CNA for years. My job experience with my last nursing home was the worst. That’s when I decided nursing homes were no longer for me.”
Sue was a welcome addition, Maegan said. She emphasized the word “very” when she said: “Sue is one of our very experienced Care Pros.” Immediately after Sue joined Home Instead, Maegan said: “She worked with one of our clients who had a high acuity level to meet. Sue was the first Care Pro assigned to assist this client, and the family and client fell in love with Sue. This family did not want anyone but Sue to take care of its loved one.”
Maegan added: “Sue has done a wonderful job meeting our clients’ needs and their families’ expectations.
