The award-winning Home Instead® franchise in Victoria, Texas, indeed was fortunate a little more than two years ago when Alice Ross contacted the office about applying for a Care Professional position. She was an experienced caregiving star who wanted to join their strong team. Recruiting and Retention Coordinator Maegan Coldewey, who invited Alice to begin work with Home Instead on June 22, 2021, announced in August 2023 that Alice had been honored as a Care Pro of the Month.
Alice had worked as a professional in the medical and health-care field for more than 45 years. Alice, a veteran at patient care and medical testing, worked for hospitals, a cardiologist, internal medicine doctors and nursing homes. Before inquiring about Home Instead, Alice had worked in a local hospital’s urology department for five years. But as a result of having back-to-back major surgeries, she decided to retire for health reasons. Alice’s retirement didn’t last long.
“After rehabilitation, I was healthy enough to resume my normal daily activities. Previously, my medical challenges had hindered or limited my abilities. I decided to get back into the workforce. That is when I found Home Instead. Two of my relatives were working there at the time, and they spoke highly about the company’s accommodating employee atmosphere, and how interactive and involved the management is, including co-owners Pietro Jordao and Dillon Rice. I decided to apply and have been pleased with the company ever since,” Alice said.
Alice’s career has always been her passion. “I’ve enjoyed all of the years of hard work, as well as giving my total dedication and compassion to those in my care. I have always strived to meet each individual’s needs without being judgmental while providing them with the dignity and respect that they deserved,” she said. “Over the years, outside of caring for individuals within my facilities or offices, I’ve also helped my siblings care for family members who have fallen ill. Currently, I care for my husband who suffers from health issues.”
With her background, Alice has been aware of any medical terminology and has been able to provide adequate care whether in person or over the phone. She added: “It’s given me great pleasure to know and feel comfortable about assisting others with the work that I do. This line of work is rewarding and keeps you humble. What I like most about my job as a Home Instead Care Pro is making my clients feel loved and cared for. They have come to depend on me for the comfort I provide and for our bonding experience.”
One of Alice’s favorite Home Instead stories is about a client who asked Alice to drive her to the family ranch. Alice said, “She told nonstop stories of her family’s history during trips to and from the ranch. She was so excited to share her memories of her family and herself. We would take drives to see all the things and places that reminded her of her upbringing and the upbringing of her children. It was kind of her to allow me to be a part of her life in that way. I’m honored she shared the experiences. It is a benefit of working for Home Instead.”
