Franklin August 2021 Professional CAREGiver of the Month - Shirley H.
Meet Shirley H., the August Processional CAREGiver of the Month for Franklin! Shirley comes to us from Minnesota where she worked 25 years as a teaching assistant in the head start program. She was also a family worker for 12 years after that, going into homes and helping families get the resources they needed for their children. She took early retirement and got a job at Publix, where a Home Instead employee met her and told her she could tell she would be an excellent caregiver. Shirley missed helping people, so she took the chance and applied with us. Since then, she has proven that caregiver right and has become one of our most prized Professional CAREGivers!
She finds that her clients relate to her because she’s older than most of the other caregivers. She works seven days a week helping clients and has one 90-year-old client who will not see anyone else. When she does have a spare minute, she likes to design t-shirts, and tumblers with her sublimation printer and sell them on Etsy. When she’s not busy with her hobby, she likes to go out for Chinese food or play some Sudoku. When asked about why she’s so good at caregiving, Shirley says, “I’m just thankful that I’m the one able to help and not the one being helped at my age”. We are surely grateful to have Shirley on our team and we hope she continues to be the one helping for many years to come!
