Clients Benefit From Sulema’s Faith-Based Approach

Sulema Orona’s journey to Home Instead® was a spiritual one, and the consistent approach to her CAREGiver duties is guided by her faith.

Explaining how she became a Home Instead CAREGiver, Sulema said: “I was recommended by a family friend, but I believe God led me to Home Instead and made this opportunity available.”

Sulema’s name fits her personality well. According to www.names.org:

“S is for serene, your calm time.”

“U is for understanding, you show for others.”

“L is for love, your love of life.”

“E is for enthusiasm, in even the most dire circumstances.”

“M is for mighty, your inner strength.”

“A is for authentic, be real.”

Observers point out that Sulema’s position with Home Instead of Midland-Odessa was meant to be. Four months after Sulema joined the award-winning franchise, which is owned by Lorena and William Shensky, Sulema was honored as Home Instead’s CAREGiver of the Month.

Among the considerations for achieving CAREGiver of the Month status, an employee has gone above and beyond the call of duty when circumstances clearly required it. Empathy and compassion are taken into account for the award, as well as skill and wisdom for dealing with challenging situations. Sulema embodies Home Instead’s guiding principles of  ‘Build Trust, Take the Lead and Share Your Heart.’ Sometimes her performance seems to “fly under the radar,” but Sulema is someone who is exceptional at her work with any client.

“Sulema is relatively new to our Home Instead team, having joined us in June. It is a short time with a huge impact! From her well-deserved praises from our clients to her proven performance that our Home Instead office staff has observed, Sulema has won our hearts with her hard work, dedication and reliability. We are thankful Sulema is part of our Home Instead team because she makes our very strong and reputable senior-care efforts even better,” said Imelda Hawkins, assistant administrator and recruitment & engagement coordinator.

Sulema is no newcomer to professional senior care. She explained her career this way: “I had worked in caregiving in previous years for a short time. I had to stop because we moved, and then I focused solely on raising my kids and taking care of my home. Now that my children are older, I can do this kind of work again and I love it!” Sulema said.

Sulema added: “I have always loved caring for others. It’s my ‘natural’ nature to help and to be there for others. I have been there and cared for several sick family members before they passed. I truly believe caregiving is my main calling in life.”

Talking about the rewards and fulfillment Sulema receives from her job, she said: “What I like most about my job as a Home Instead CAREGiver is that I get to help and be a blessing to those who need it most. I have heard so many great stories from several clients. The best part and memories I will always hold in my heart are the clients telling me how grateful they are. I always say, ‘There is no need to thank me. That is what I am here for.’ ”

Sulema is among more than 100,000 CAREGivers worldwide, and she has helped add to those numbers because of her strong belief in Home Instead’s purpose and core values. Those core values are: “Honor God in all we do; Treat each other with dignity and respect; Encourage growth in ourselves and others; Build value in our service to others.”
