Adeola Uses Memory of Caring for Dad as Power Source

CAREGiver of the Month Adeola’s passion to help seniors emanates from a power source that’s intensely personal. “I took care of my dad during a two-year journey, until he died of kidney failure. This unforgettable period of time encouraged me to do my best for him. When he was about to die, he prayed and blessed me. This experience has encouraged me in every home in which I have found myself as a Home Instead® CAREGiver,” said Adeola, who joined Home Instead of Midland-Odessa in December 2020.

Adeola has been working as care assistant since her early 20s, and she also took care of her grandmother as a family caregiver. She learned about Home Instead from a TV commercial. Assistant Administrator and Recruitment and Engagement Coordinator Imelda Hawkins said:

“Adeola has really flourished with Home Instead from the start. With her experience and recent CNA certification, Adeola uses her credentials and her compassionate heart to provide quality care to some of our specialized clients.”

Referring to the award-winning Home Instead franchise owned by Lorena and William Shensky, Adeola said: “I always try my best to make my clients happy by giving them my best possible care and love. Most of them don’t have family nearby, so I take care of them the same way I would do for my parents.”

Adeola added: “Three things serve as my motor:

  • “Trust.”
  • “Respect.”
  • “Love.”

“During my experience with my clients, I encourage them to trust me by relating to them as if I were their daughter. I encourage them to do what they think they can’t do, and I also respect their opinions. If it is needed, I feed, bathe and help them get dressed, providing any personal care that is needed. I also ask them to look in the mirror and see how beautiful or handsome they are,” Adeola said.

“My job is to make my clients feel comfortable, as pain-free as possible and peaceful. This is my most rewarding aspect of my life. My advice to other CAREGivers is they shouldn’t solely look at the paycheck but have it at the back of their minds that they are helping someone. That is worth quite a bit as well.”

Among the considerations for achieving CAREGiver of the Month status, an employee has shown that he or she has gone above and beyond the call of duty when circumstances clearly required it. Empathy and compassion are taken into account for the award, as well as skill and wisdom for dealing with challenging situations. Adeola embodies Home Instead’s guiding principles of  “Build Trust, Take the Lead and Share Your Heart.” Sometimes her performance seems to “fly under the radar,” but Adeola is someone who is exceptional at her work with any client.

Franchise co-owner Lorena Shensky said: “Adeola has been amazing since Day One. I can personally attest to this as I have seen her in action multiple times with our clients. She truly cares. and it shows.”
