Rosalind Lenford CAREGiver of the Month - March 2022

Rosalind’s Appearance Was an Immediate Blessing

When Rosalind Lenford strolled through the door at Home Instead® of Midland-Odessa last July, a good day became a great day for Assistant Administrator and Recruitment and Engagement Coordinator Imelda Hawkins, who always is searching for CAREGivers. As Imelda renewed her acquaintances with Rosalind, Imelda knew she had struck gold for Lorena and William Shensky, co-owners of the award-winning franchise, as well as their clients.

Imelda explained: “Rosalind and I share a connection because she worked at a facility where one of my Home Instead clients was living when I was a CAREGiver in 2014. When I saw Rosalind walk in the door, I knew she was good and that I wanted her to be part of our family.”

Imelda added: “Rosalind is the type of CAREGiver who I would place with my family members because of her great knowledge of caregiving, her calming spirit and her great work ethic. Rosalind has a gentle, calming voice that just ensures all will be OK.”

Rosalind was looking for a part-time job when she went online and scanned through job site Indeed.com. “I saw Home Instead was hiring CAREGivers, so I put in my application. I was called during the next couple of days,” Rosalind recalled.

Of course, Imelda already knew Rosalind had entered the professional caregiving realm more than 30 years ago. Rosalind also had been a family caregiver, having taken of both sets of her grandparents. “I truly enjoyed working with the elderly,” Rosalind said.

On March 7, Imelda announced Rosalind had been honored as the franchise’s CAREGiver of the Month. Among the considerations for reaching CAREGiver of the Month status, an employee has shown he or she has gone above and beyond the call of duty, Imelda said. Empathy and compassion are taken into account for the award, as well as skill and wisdom for dealing with challenging situations. Rosalind embodies Home Instead’s guiding principles of “Build Trust, Take the Lead and Share Your Heart.” She is someone who is exceptional at her work with any client, Imelda emphasized.

Imelda pointed out: “When Rosalind started, we paired her with a client who was bedbound. In no time, Rosalind had her client sitting at the dinner table and eating her meals. There’s probably not a better example of ‘taking the lead’ that I can recall. The client also ‘trusted’ Rosalind before she was able to advance to sitting at the dinner table. I am sure Rosalind empowered the client by ‘sharing her heart.’

In addition to her strong companionship skills, Rosalind provides safety assurance, meal preparation, medication reminders, light housekeeping, and transportation and errands. Rosalind offers personal assistance with eating, grooming, dressing, bathing, incontinence care, cognitive impairment, hospice support and mobility. By expertly doing so, Rosalind not only assists her clients, but helps their families eliminate worry, reduce stress and re-establish personal freedom.

“The best thing I like about Home Instead is being able to make my schedule. I’m very much involved with my grandson, so being able to pick what I can do to help Home Instead also helps me a lot. The Home Instead staff is awesome and understanding,” Rosalind said.

She added: “I love all my clients, but the one who really had my heart was Miss S. She likes to pray for people, and we love watching Dr. David Jeremiah, a well-known evangelical Christian author and pastor who appears on television daily.”

Rosalind enjoys being a part of the team for the West Texas franchise, a member of a highly successful network founded in 1994 in Omaha, Nebraska. The Home Instead network is the world’s leading provider of in-home care services for older adults, with more than 1,200 independently owned and operated franchises that provide care throughout the U.S. and 13 other countries. Lorena and William have owned the Midland-Odessa franchise since March 2020.
