Hospice Client Made Impression on Juliet

CAREGiver of the Month Juliet Uhegbu will never forget the spirit of a hospice client who recently passed away and the loss she has experienced.

“The client was on hospice, but you never would have known it because she seemed healthy and was so full of life. In some ways, although I wasn’t with her for a long time, it seemed as if I had heard a lifetime of stories from this precious lady who had some great memories even though she had dementia,” said Juliet, who joined Home Instead® of Midland-Odessa on Sept. 29, 2020.

Juliet recalled the times when the client had asked about her late husband and when she could see him again. “I softly reminded her that her husband was with Jesus. She would say, ‘OK, I understand,’ ” said Juliet, who received praise from the client’s family about the way she compassionately worked with their senior loved one on behalf of the award-winning franchise owned by William Shensky and Lorena Garza Shensky.

“It hurt my heart to lose her about a month ago. I don’t know how to further express my feelings about losing her. She was a super, super client, and every Home Instead client has been nice.”

Recruitment and Engagement Coordinator Imelda Hawkins said: “Juliet’s love for her clients always shows through her work and compliments we receive from the clients and their families.

Juliet is a joy with whom to work and has definitely brought light to her clients’ days. Juliet’s love for the elderly followed her over the many miles of sea when she came to America.”

Before arriving in the United States, Juliet was a registered nurse in Nigeria. “That’s where I worked as a registered nurse for six or seven years, but I am not a registered nurse in the United States,” Juliet said. “Also, I am not a CNA,  not just yet. That may come at some other time when it is possible. I was full time in a nursing home, but I needed the kinds of hours that help me with my family situation. Home Instead is the answer to that with its scheduling flexibility. I have four boys, including twins who are 2 years and three months old. The others are 4 and 5. I have my mother-in-law here helping me when I am working.”

Imelda said: “Since day one, Juliet has hit the road running. She is a very hard-working CAREGiver who is always seeking new assignments. We are proud to honor Juliet as our CAREGiver of the Month for January 2020.”

Juliet prides herself in taking care of her clients compassionately and skillfully. “Everyone tells me I’m good all the time, which is a huge compliment. That is truly what I am aiming to do. I am willing to go anywhere to help a client. The clients are very nice to me, super nice. Usually I am off Tuesday and Wednesday, but I like working. I tell the office: ‘Please send me to others.’ ”

Juliet added: “Home Instead makes it easy for me. I was so lucky to get a job with Home Instead. They are an employer who allows me to be a mother to my children. I will stay with Home Instead. I know in my heart they are good people.”
