Yesenia Easily Shifts into Successful Senior Care

Compassion, empathy and patience are awesome God-given attributes and the cornerstones of human kindness, whether they are shared with the young or the old. In Yesenia M.’s case, she has had 12 years of family caregiving experience with her three children, and her instincts are perfect for any kind of caregiving. Yesenia did not have professional senior-care experience before she joined Home Instead® of Midland-Odessa, but she has been a hit as a CAREGiverâ„  in the 15 months she’s been with the award-winning franchise.

Assistant Administrator and Recruitment and Engagement Coordinator Imelda Hawkins said: “Yesenia is eager to learn and has a gentleness about her that she uses to earn the clients’ trust. When Yesenia is working, she fills her clients’ hearts with love. Yesenia has brought great joy to her clients and a sense of calmness and relief to their families. For those reasons and many more, we honored Yesenia as our CAREGiver of the Month for April.”

Yesenia came aboard the Home Instead franchise just weeks before Lorena Garza Shensky and her husband William Shensky took over for Tracy and Terry Baugh as the franchise owners March 1, 2020. Yesenia said: “I started in February 2020, which also coincided with the first wave of the COVID-19 virus that hit the country. I had come across a Home Instead advertisement on Indeed.com. I was a server at the time and was ready to leave the food industry.”

Referring to her rise to prominence as a CAREGiver, Yesenia humbly said: “It has been a learn-as-you-go experience for me.” Touching lives impacts Yesenia’s soul, whether she’s providing physical help such as light housekeeping, meal preparation, medication reminders or personal care or if she is offering emotional support in a companionship role. For Yesenia, focusing on Home Instead’s training, processes and procedures of successful caregiving helped her achieve CAREGiver of the Month status.

CAREGivers offer personal assistance with eating, grooming, dressing, bathing, incontinence care, dementia support, cognitive impairment, hospice support and mobility. CAREGivers not only assist their clients, but help their families eliminate worry, reduce stress and re-establish personal freedom. Yesenia focuses on each client’s interests and builds relationships by doing so.

“Getting to meet different clients is what I like most about being a Home Instead CAREGiver. Hearing them talk about their childhood, their families and life in general is amazing,” she said.

“One of the gentlemen for whom I assisted was truly a favorite client because of his stories. I loved hearing about the experiences he went through while he was growing up and while he was in the military service. My favorite stories that he told were about his childhood. It is interesting to learn how differently life was back then when compared to how it is now. My client’s experiences and perspectives definitely have humbled me a little more and actually help me enjoy life as it is now,” said Yesenia, who loves spending time with her family when she’s not working. She also loves shopping and trying out new restaurants.

Yesenia enjoys being a part of the CAREGiver team for the West Texas franchise, a member of a highly successful network founded in 1994 in Omaha, Nebraska, by Paul and Lori Hogan. The Home Instead network is the world’s leading provider of in-home care services for seniors, with more than 1,200 independently owned and operated franchises that provide more than 80 million hours of care annually throughout the U.S. and 13 other countries.

Yesenia is among more than 90,000 CAREGivers worldwide, and she has helped add to those numbers because of her strong belief in Home Instead’s purpose. It isn’t hard to see Yesenia lives the Home Instead principles of “Build Trust, Take the Lead and Share Your Heart.”
