Ah the holidays are here again. We never get white Christmases in Southern California, but that is a good thing for senior care! Studio City, CA seniors don’t have ice and snow to contend with, and outdoor activities aren’t curtailed by bone-chilling cold.

But that doesn’t mean we don’t enjoy the holidays in southern California! Great Christmas and holiday music has been part of life for most of us since long before we considered elderly companion care. Studio City, CA families probably have their own great memories from years past.

And the right holiday music may even be a benefit for those in dementia elderly care or alzheimers elderly care. Good and comfortable memories may be sparked that bring a pleasant state to one so afflicted.

So here are a few suggestions on classic Christmas albums from some of the greatest artists of American history.

First is the crooner Andy Williams. He did two Christmas albums that can be played by a senior companion or family member, but his White Christmas album really stands out. From the invigorating “Sleigh Ride” through the contemplative “Some Children See Him” plus the classic “My Favorite Things,” and ending with the stirring “Bells of St. Mary’s,” Williams is at his smooth best.

Johnny Cash provides some great music to play in elderly assisted living. Studio City, CA residents may have fond memories of his honest baritone giving gritty interpretations to many Christmas classics, like “Joy to the World,” “Silent Night,” “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day,” “O Come All Ye Faithful,” and so many others.

A third we’ll mention is the classic crooner himself, Bing Crosby. Who better to bring out during respite stay assisted living than old Bing? His “White Christmas” remains the top-selling single of all time! And, of course, he did albums with lots of other great Christmas classics, such as “Silent Night,” “Jingle Bells,” “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” “Adeste Fideles,” “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” and many, may others.

All of these classic tracks and many more — from Mel Torme, Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Ella Fitzgerald, Lena Horne, and even more recent artists — are available online via Youtube, iTunes, and many other music services.
