A Beautiful Relationship: Client’s Tips Thrill Genise

She is in her 90s, and she is looking great!

“She” is one of Home Instead® Care Professional of the Month Genise Dillard’s amazing clients. And “amazing” is the operative word as part of a discussion of Genise’s award-winning work with owner Bert Copple’s Home Instead franchise in Clawson, where Genise has thrived for the past year. Genise said: “This client with whom I enjoy working really amazes me.”

She added: “I always tell her that she looks amazing, especially for her age. She and I love wearing cosmetics. One day last year, I drove her to Somerset Mall in Troy, and she was shopping for new foundation. It was such an amazing time – all of the makeup associates loved her because she has a pleasing personality and is so knowledgeable about cosmetics. In fact, she not only is knowledgeable, but she also is right on about her judgments and observations. She gave me some great insight that I appreciated,” Genise said.

Diverse caregiving experiences are among the reasons why Genise is glad she discovered Home Instead. “I found the company through a search on Indeed.com. Home Instead’s human resources department contacted me after I applied. I came into the office to interview with our general manager, Anne Monaghan. A day later, I was offered a Care Pro position, and within a week, I was working with a client,” Genise recalled.

She has 20 years of experience as a professional caregiver. “I have worked with seniors, traumatic brain-injured clients and those with autism in nursing homes and rehabilitation centers. I’ve also served clients who live in their homes, where they can be provided the best care for their needs,” Genise said.

Serving as a family caregiver provided a spark to start Genise’s career. “I have experience with helping my parents care for my older sister who had autism. I learned the basic skills working with her, and I started working professionally at the age of 18. Although it was very challenging to help my parents care for my sister, it became very rewarding. I assisted my sister to help with her activities of daily living,” Genise said.

Her Home Instead job is a great fit for Genise, who likes being able to help assist and emotionally support her clients.

She said: “I like working with seniors because they love sharing great stories about their lives. and it feels good to give back to them. I appreciate them for allowing me to come into their homes to provide the best care I have been trained to do.”

Genise added: “With a little bit of help from a Care Pro, it sometimes gives them a sense of independence because there can be quite a bit that they can do on their own. If nothing else, our role of being a safety net for them can be the key to all of this. I love keeping the seniors motivated and encouraged to continue to live life to the fullest.”
