February Care Pro of the Month Raquel Lampley

In Her Role as ‘Little Philosopher,’ Raquel Comforted Client

To one of Care Professional of the Month Raquel Lampley’s clients, Raquel was known as “My Little Philosopher.”

“She called me that because I was always positive and brought a favorable light to every situation we faced,” said Raquel, who was honored as the February Care Pro of the Month by Home Instead® of Clawson, Michigan. The accolade came a year and a half after Raquel joined owner Bert Copple’s award-winning franchise.

Check out what seemed to be a common exchange between Raquel and her client:

  • The client would say, “I hate being old.”
  • Raquel’s reply: “You’ve gained lots of wisdom and knowledge in your 95 years. Know you are truly blessed because some people haven’t made it nearly as far as you have!”
  • The client would say, “You know what, Raquel? You are so right. I am blessed.”

Sadly, the client passed away. But Raquel has found solace in the fact that she did everything she could to comfort her client and provide a steady beacon of light that warmed the client’s challenging final days with her Care Pro. “I miss her so much!” lamented Raquel, who offered these words to her late client: “Continue to rest peacefully, Ms. Patty!”

Raquel’s spark for professional senior care was ignited during her freshman year at Michigan State University. “That was when my great-grandmother became ill. My family and I took care of her every day, and I grew a love for senior care. She needed full care, just like some of my clients I have now,” said Raquel, who went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies at Michigan State.

Before entering college, Raquel already had enjoyed her taste of working with others as she graduated from Cass Technical High School with a diploma in Human Resources. With her education complete, she first found a job in a care community. “I had worked in a nursing home before joining Home Instead, so just doing rounds and taking care of 10 to 15 people at a time doesn’t compare to the intimacy I have with my clients now,” she said.

Raquel is glad she found Home Instead on Indeed.com. “What I love most about my job is that I get to bond with each client in a one-on-one setting. It’s more intimate,” she said. “I love the fact that I am able to help the elderly with all of their daily activities and bring a more positive light to their lives. They know whenever I get to my shift they’re going to have an awesome day! I also love that their families trust me with their loved ones!”
