Nashville April 2021 Client & Professional CAREGiver Spotlight - Joyce H. & Ashleigh R.

Meet Joyce and her caregiver, Ashleigh, Nashville’s Client and Professional CAREGiverâ„  Spotlight for April!  Ashleigh has been helping Ms. Joyce for about 2 ½ years now, 4-5 days per week.  Ms. Joyce is a proper lady who has lived in several states, including Georgia and California.  She was always the one to host wonderful parties and get-togethers at her home.  An interesting fact about Ms. Joyce is that her grandparents travelled out west in a covered wagon.  They were seeking a drier place due to allergies.  Ashleigh says she cannot imagine a lady like Ms. Joyce travelling in that manner and gets a kick out of the story.

Ashleigh often takes Joyce on excursions because they both like to get out of the house.  One of their favorite places is Cheekwood Estate & Gardens, where Ms. Joyce is a member.  During the COVID-19 pandemic, Ashleigh took Joyce to a drive thru petting zoo.  She was not sure how Joyce would react, since she had told Ashleigh she is not a ‘pet person’.  However, Ms. Joyce really enjoyed the trip and even fed an antelope!

Ashleigh refers to Ms. Joyce as her “Gigi” and says “She’s my best friend”.  They believe they were placed together by a higher power, as Ashleigh normally did not work on Sundays, but was assigned to Ms. Joyce one weekend and immediately hit it off.  Ashleigh normally went to church on Sundays, and when she found out that Ms. Joyce was missing her church, they made it a weekly routine to go together.

They enjoy cooking together and Ashleigh often makes Ms. Joyce’s favorite food, cabbage soup.  She also knows Ms. Joyce’s preferences and accommodates those, no matter what.  For example, when it storms, Ms. Joyce likes all her lamps to be removed from the tables and placed on the floor.  Ashleigh will do this without being asked.  They just have a connection that cannot be explained.  This is what we mean by “Sharing Our Hearts”.  We are so proud of this bond and we hope that Ashleigh and Ms. Joyce continue to be “Home Instead” for many years to come!
