Our 2018 CAREGiver of the Year, Jill M., is from DeLand, FL.

Jill is one of those remarkable souls that grew up a Caregiver and, after trying other occupations, found her way back to her true passion later in life. As a child, she learned about caring for seniors watching her mother care for her Grandma, and volunteering as a candy striper at her local nursing home in the ninth grade. She learned then, that seniors offer us "their life experiences containing the wisdom gained in their discovering themselves over the course of their entire lives. Their contributions should be celebrated! Our children are the true beneficiaries of the character and integrity that an elder's presence can bring into their lives". In midlife, Jill also moved her Dad in with her family to care for him. Later, Jill and her husband cared for his mom in their home as well. Legally blind and with severe emphysema, Jill enjoyed sharing meals with her mother-in-law and bonding while chatting and watching TV. Jill would paint her fingernails and help shower and dress her. Jill tells us "I did whatever she needed to make her happy. She once commented to her son "where did you get this lovely girl!". Jill continues to live in awe of seniors to this day.

Jill's clients were not surprised at all by her being honored as Caregiver of the Year. But Jill said, "I think I underestimated the impact that I have on my clients lives. I love going to their homes each week and spending time with my unique and amazing seniors. When I told them of my award, they all told me how special I am, and that my hard work and great personality brightens their day. I was so touched and knew that I had made the right, last, career decision".

At the office, we're always trying to squeeze a little bit more into Jill's schedule. She is a gifted CAREGiver, a wonderful person that can handle every situation with grace and confidence. She is an excellent team member as well as a trustworthy individual contributor on any case that she works.

Jill considers it a privilege to work with seniors and to be that reassurance to families that their beloved is well cared for and loved. There is no greater calling than to care for those in need.
