I can't say enough good things about this Home Instead location. The back office is well-run and responsive. And the caregivers who took care of my mom were all wonderful people. I needed reliability and help at short notice, and they delivered.

Caregiving for an older relative is a 28 hour per day job, and while it was a privilege and an honor to care for my wife in the last year of her life, I really needed the extra help. I researched over 10 local agencies and settled on Home Instead for the following reasons: - They had EXCELLENT communication. If there was any delay or problem at home or schedule changes, I was notified immediately by the main office. - They worked directly with our long-term insurance company to resolve problems. I was spared the bureaucracy headaches and long waits on hold to process claims. They did everything for me. - Their office staff was easy to work with and was available 24 hours a day to answer questions and resolve problems. - The three caregivers who were assigned to us, Basilia, Rosa, and Connie were extremely trustworthy, loving and caring individuals who took their jobs seriously and did good work caring for my wife which freed me up to manage all the other issues of our lives. I cannot thank them enough for their excellent service. Home Instead was not the cheapest in-home care company we interviewed, but after working with them over many months, I was very happy with their people, their organization, and their quality. Here in Skagit and Whatcom counties, families often reach out to us after noticing signs like:
- Missed medications, meals, or appointments
- Challenges with bathing, dressing, or mobility
- Increased forgetfulness or signs of memory loss
- Withdrawal from social activities
- Stacks of unopened mail or unpaid bills
- Family caregiver stress or burnout
The good news? Help doesn’t have to mean moving out. Our Care Pros help older adults stay safe and supported right in their own homes—from Blaine to Mount Vernon and everywhere in between.

If you’re doing your best to support a loved one at home, it’s normal to wonder if bringing in help means giving something up. But in our experience working with thousands of families in the Bellingham, WA area and providing over 1 million hours of care, we’ve seen the opposite: in-home care can help you get back what matters most—quality time, peace of mind, and space to breathe.
You might be ready to consider home care if:
- You’re trying to balance care with your own life, work, or family
- You want to avoid future health issues like falls or medication mix-ups
- You need time to just be with your loved one again—not just care for them
Home Instead Care Pros provide support that fits your routine—not the other way around. Whether it's meal prep in Burlington, a walk through Whatcom Falls Park, or help getting to appointments at St. Joseph Medical Center or United General Medical Center, our care is designed to enhance—not replace—your role.
You don’t have to wait for a crisis. Most families who start care with us say they wish they had done it sooner.
It depends on your family’s needs—but if your loved one wants to stay in their own home, in-home care can be the most flexible, personalized, and reassuring option. It allows older adults to age in the place they love most: their own home.
In-home care vs. assisted living
Assisted living can be great for those who want a communal setting and are ready to relocate. But if your loved one wants to stay at home, in-home care offers:
- One-on-one attention in familiar surroundings
- A flexible schedule that fits your lifestyle
- Support with meals, mobility, personal care, and companionship
- Help from Care Pros who get to know your loved one—building trust and routine
In-home care vs. hiring a private caregiver
Hiring an independent caregiver can seem less expensive—but it comes with risk. As the employer, you’d be responsible for payroll, insurance, and coverage when they can’t show up.
With Home Instead, we handle everything:
- Professional hiring, training, and supervision
- Background checks, insurance, and 24/7 backup support
- Personalized matches and no long-term contracts
We’ve delivered over 1 million hours of care across Skagit and Whatcom Counties—and we’re proud to offer a team you can count on.

Get to Know a Care Pro
Jessica B., Home Instead Bellingham, WA
Jessica has been caring for others for over 20 years—and her passion hasn’t wavered a bit. With a background as a Med Aide, Care Pro, and Medical Assistant, she brings knowledge, compassion, and calm to every care visit.
Her first job in senior care was in the kitchen of an assisted living facility. “I loved talking with the residents and hearing their stories,” she says. “It made me realize how much joy can come from something as simple as listening.”
Over the years, Jessica has developed a strong skill set in dementia care, companionship, and end-of-life support. She’s especially attuned to each client’s preferences, finding ways to meet their needs while honoring their independence and dignity. “Even if I’m younger, I help remind them they still have purpose. That connection means everything.”
For Jessica, caregiving is more than a job—it’s a calling. She knows that some days are hard and not everything goes according to plan. “You’ve got to stay calm, because if you’re calm, the client stays calm,” she says. “That’s something I’ve learned—and it’s stuck with me.”
She’s proud to be part of a small but mighty team in Bellingham. “Everyone works together to make sure both clients and staff feel supported,” she says. “I love my job enough to keep showing up and doing all I can.”
