Advancing how we care for those with memory loss.
While medical research works towards treatments for memory issues like Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, there have also been advances in how we care for those living with memory loss. With guidance from Dr. Lakelyn Hogan-Eichenberger, Home Instead’s on-staff gerontologist, we’ve developed a person-centered approach to memory support, uniquely designed to:
- Care for the whole person.
- Honor your loved one’s life before their cognitive decline.
- Help them continue to enjoy activities and hobbies they love.
- Compassionately respond to cognitive and behavioral symptoms.
- Help enhance safety in the home environment.
- Review and adjust care plans as needs change.
Compassionate care begins with a thoughtful care plan.
Over the years, one thing has been clear: no two people experience memory loss the same way. That’s why we take the time to understand your loved one’s needs, routines, and story—so we can create an in-home memory care plan that truly fits your family.

We’ve supported a retired postal worker with a personalized mail-delivery activity and a retired professional dancer by incorporating dance into her days. The goal is to find what helps that individual engage successfully.
It starts with understanding who the person was before memory loss changed their daily life.
One former postal worker had a mail-delivery station created around his parked car. With a retired professional dancer, Care Pros danced daily. Another client was a talented painter, and one of her paintings is still displayed in our office.
These details give Care Pros meaningful ways to connect with the individual rather than defining them by dementia.
Yes. Our team has gone into memory care settings to provide one-on-one support when a client needs additional help adjusting to a new environment.
We’ve also been brought into a facility to help with a client experiencing challenging behaviours and successfully supported the transition.
Care is guided by an individualized plan so the Care Pro understands the person’s needs, routines, and approaches that help their day go more successfully.
Yes. Home Instead has sponsored and participated in our local Walk to End Alzheimer’s every year for 24 years.
That long-term involvement complements the hands-on dementia experience of a team that supports people at home as well as clients who need additional one-on-one assistance within memory care settings.
