Ken Stavas, Owner
Ken has been the owner of Home Instead since 1996 servicing over 3,300 clients. With a Master’s Degree in Psychology, he knows how important it is for clients and their families to have a reliable and trusted resource of affordable home care. Ken has placed particular attention on becoming a trusted provider of comprehensive non-medical home health care for our clients. Throughout his years of service to the seniors, Home Instead has received numerous awards such as Cobb Small Business Award, Best Practices Award, Business to Business, and One to Watch Award.
Janice Sloan, General Manager
Janice came to Home Instead with a well-rounded background, having many years of experience in management, marketing, and customer relations. For 19 years, she worked with ClubCorp, a company that owns upscale, private city and country clubs. In 2012, she transitioned into the senior care industry focusing on home care and senior living communities.
As General Manager, she is responsible for the day-to-day management of the business. Her goal is three-fold: hire happy, dependable employees who have a heart for helping others; provide outstanding care to every Home Instead client; and grow the business in a fiscally responsible way.
Janice grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She resides with her husband and two sons in the BridgeMill community of Canton.
Jessica Hugg, General Manager Trainee
Jessica brings over 24 years of management experience, including 16 years in healthcare leadership. Throughout her career, she has focused on building strong teams, supporting high-quality patient care, and ensuring efficient day-to-day operations.
As General Manager, Jessica is responsible for the overall management of the organization. Her leadership approach centers on developing engaged, dependable teams, delivering exceptional care and service, and guiding the business with a thoughtful, fiscally responsible mindset.
Originally from upstate New York, Jessica moved to Georgia in 1997 with her husband. She is the proud mother of three adult children and enjoys spending time with her family and vacationing at the beach.
Gloria Thomasson, Recruiting Manager
Gloria started working for Home Instead in 2018 as a CarePro. She quickly worked her way up and assumed more responsibility, being promoted to Recruiting and Training Coordinator. Hiring the best CarePros possible and helping match them to clients is important to Gloria. She believes helping others is not just a job, but a calling in her life. She also assists in the Kennesaw office whenever called upon.
Gloria lives in Rome with her husband, 2 sons, and 4 dogs. In her spare time she loves reading, listening to great podcasts, attending church, and spending time with family.
Christine Herrin, Human Resources/Recruitment/Training Manager
Christine started as a caregiver with Home Instead in 2015, in a few short months she was invited to a CAREGiver appreciation breakfast where she met the office staff and was recruited for her talents in training and management. Christine has 18 years of Retail and Office Management experience with a Certificate in Medical Coding and she is currently a licensed CNA. Christine’s ability to manage stress while maintaining high standards and keeping an infectious, fun spirit makes her valuable to our dynamic staff.
Elizabeth Huff, Client Care Advisor
Elizabeth Huff is a Client Care Advisor with Home Instead, where she has been proudly serving families since 2017. A recognized presence in the community, she hosts monthly networking meetings, volunteers on senior-related boards, is an active member of the Exchange Club, and serves as CFO for A Night To Remember Foundation Inc., a dementia-grant nonprofit. Elizabeth is involved with the Chamber of Commerce and is known for building long-term, meaningful relationships that make her a trusted resource for anyone seeking care solutions.
Elizabeth’s passion for this work began long before her career, first caring for adults with disabilities and later supporting her grandmother after an Alzheimer’s diagnosis. These deeply personal experiences shaped her commitment help those that may not be able to help themselves. Today, she is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for every family she meets.
Diane Denham, Training Coordinator
Diane has been employed with Home Instead since 2013 as a Caregiver. Although she loved being a Caregiver, she recently joined our Training Department where she uses her caregiving experience to train new employees to become great Caregivers.
In her spare time, Diane enjoys traveling to her lake house, riding motorcycles, and spending time with family and friends. Her family consists of Mick and their four adult children, five grandchildren, and one fur baby named Mr. Pickles.
Tonya Blair, Staffing Assistant
Tonya joined Home Instead in early 2025, with over 20 years experience in cutomer service and management. She has 12 years of experience caring for family members. Tonya and her 4 children live in the Cartersville area. As the mother of an autistic child, Tonya has a passion for learning new ways to help her daughter navigate all areas of life. Tonya aspires to become an Autism Advocate for the State of Georgia.
In her spare time, she loves reading, hiking, and camping.
Shawna Henry, Service Manager
Shawna came to Home Instead in 2012 with a degree in Health Case Management. After being a stay-at-home mom to twins, she started working part-time as a Caregiver. Once her children were on their own, she joined our scheduling team full-time in 2017. She became Service Manager in 2023. Shawna understands the client's needs and the caregiver's skills, and she works diligently to match the right client with the right caregiver.
Shawna is a breast cancer survivor, and she serves Cobb County as a Breast Cancer Ambassador. She enjoys shopping with her mom and spending time with her five grandchildren.
Laura Boatner, RN - Client Care Coordinator
A self-employed medical transcriptionist for fifteen years, Laura decided to use her knowledge with a job in caregiving. She graduated top of her class at Kennesaw State University with her BSN in 2002. In 2008, she began caring for her own mother. Because she had such a positive experience using the services provided by Home Instead at that time, she was delighted to begin working for us. She draws from that experience as her source of empathy, understanding what a stressful endeavor it is to care for a disabled parent. She has served as a volunteer for WellStar Hospice, and she's served the homeless at MUST Ministries in Marietta. She is also a proponent for dog rescue. Laura and her husband have two grown children and two grandchildren.
Sandi Gault, RN, Client Care Coordinator
Sandi has been a nurse for over 20 years, graduating from Piedmont Hospital School of Nursing. Her experience ranges from working with tiny newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Cobb Wellstar Hospital to working with senior adults as Wellness Director at an assisted living facility. Sandi has also worked for several home care agencies.
Sandi has two grown children, three grandchildren, and two fur babies.
Mariya Ransom, RN
Mariya has over two decades of diverse and high-level clinical expertise. Originally from Moscow, Russia, Mariya moved to the United States in 1992.
She launched her career in 1999 with a prestigious RN Residency at Princeton Medical Center, and held a full-time position in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Mariya’s extensive clinical background spans Medical-Surgical and Neuro ICU, Perinatal High-Risk, Labor and Delivery, and Orthopedic Surgery PACU.
In 2022, Mariya relocated to Georgia with her family. Driven by a passion for whole-person wellness, she recently graduated from a specialized program in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in December 2025. As a Certified TCM Consultant, she integrates her deep medical knowledge with holistic approaches to health. Outside of work, Mariya is a proud mother of four and a grandmother of two, she enjoys downhill skiing, floral design, and exploring new cultures through travel.
Karen Crocker, RN, Client Care Coordinator
Karen's experience with Home Instead began years ago when her mother was a client. She was pleased with the services Home Instead provided to her family, and came to work for us in June 2022. Karen has always loved helping people, and started her career as a CNA. She graduated from Lakeview School of Nursing in Danville, Illinois. Her nursing experience includes Neuro ICU, Medical Surgery ICU, Emergency Room, Supervisor of Visiting Home Health Services, Upjohn Health Care, out-patient surgery, and hospice. She was also Health and Wellness Director for an assisted living facility.
Karen is married to a pastor, and they have three grown sons and six grandchildren. In her spare time, Karen enjoys gardening.
Laurie Dunn, On Call Coordinator
Laurie came to our company in June, 2016 with 14 years of caregiving experience. Caregiving has been her passion since childhood. She has helped with family, worked at an assisted living facility, a home care agency, and also had private duty clients. She has now taken on a different role in this field by becoming part of our scheduling team. She listens compassionately to the clients as well as the caregivers, and strives to meet their needs.
Michelle Pike, On Call Coordinator
Michelle joined our team of on call coordinators in 2023. She responds quickly and efficiently to after-hour calls from clients and caregivers.
