Pam Howland

Pam Howland

Emergency Management Plan/Billing Specialist

Caregivers come from a variety of backgrounds: military, teaching, nursing, moms returning to the workforce, legal assistance, and many more. Whatever the background, we bring art and science to caregiving. Art to share our love of music, crafts, cooking, and reading to enhance a client's life. Science to continually learn proper techniques that ensure the safety of a client and help them navigate technology. My background in performing helps me inhabit a client's reality. I sing 30's, 40', and 50's songs to soothe them when they're anxious. Computer consulting and training background allows me to help them get a better understanding of technology. Administrative compliance responsibilities allow me to use my work experience to keep up to date on regulatory, emergency management, and Home Instead policies and procedures. But, still at heart a caregiver, I find great joy in being empathetic to fellow caregivers' needs and being able to guide them through their caregiving journey.

Get to Know a Care Pro

Sue H., Home Instead Venice, FL

“Sue didn’t plan to become a Care Pro but it turns out, she was made for it. After 30 years in an office job and raising a son with cerebral palsy, she stepped into caregiving with a deeply personal perspective. “My son never spoke and used a wheelchair,” she shares. “I lovingly cared for him for 32 years. After he passed, I still had that desire to care for others.”

What she found at Home Instead surprised her, in the best way. “I didn’t know what I was getting into, but I love it,” Sue says. “Every person has a story to tell. I’m here to listen, laugh, and sometimes, just be there.”

Sue’s specialty is companionship and comedy. “I’m a laugher,” she says. “I usually get people to laugh, and sometimes, it’s like therapy.” She builds trust through patience, asking questions, and respecting routines.

With strong support from the Venice office and a knack for building relationships, Sue brings comfort, calm, and a good sense of humor to the older adults she serves."
