Memorable Weekend: Sydney Shared in Client’s Final Recital

Sydney Eubank, Care Professional

Home Instead® Care Professional of the Month Sydney Eubank will never forget her final weekend with a unique client before she passed away.

“The client had been a professional singer and actress. I received the opportunity to take her to a recital for which I helped her practice. We would do vocal warmups and practice her music after breakfast every day,” Sydney recalled.

The client told Sydney, “I want to be ‘sparkly’ for my recital.” So, Sydney and her client dug through her closet. Sydney explained: “She had a rhinestone-covered jacket and leggings with rhinestones that would do just that – sparkle – and she sparkled incredibly that day and sang beautifully.”

Sydney added: “It was amazing to see someone who was in her 90s continue to do the things she loved until the very end of her life. I couldn’t think of a better thing to help someone accomplish. While that is one of my favorite stories, all clients are so unique and so incredible. I have a place in my heart for every long-term client, every client for whom I fill in and every client somewhere in between.”

The memories have unfolded nonstop since April 2025, when Sydney joined owner Michael Lammers’ award-winning Home Instead franchise that serves Boulder, Broomfield and northwest Adams Counties and is based in Louisville, Colorado.

While Sydney mentioned the uniqueness of her clients, she happens to be a unique Care Pro. The Fort Collins native’s background includes a bachelor’s degree in political science, with minors in history and legal studies, from the University of Northern Colorado. Sydney’s 3.84 grade-point average fittingly was acknowledged in December 2024 when she received her diploma 3½ years after starting college in Greeley.

“I hadn’t previously been a professional caregiver. I had been managing restaurants during college. I needed a change from restaurant work and wanted to do something fulfilling while I work on applying to law school. This job with Home Instead was a perfect fit for what I wanted,” said Sydney, who also serves as a food safety consultant for a well-established charitable organization that provides social services, including hunger relief.

Sydney found Home Instead on Indeed.com. Ironically, she had previously considered applying at Home Instead. “But that was before college, and I wasn’t old enough. But when I later found the Home Instead listing, I got excited to be able to do the work,” Sydney said. “I haven’t had any experience of directly taking care of senior loved ones in my family, but I am now advising my family on the care needs for my grandma, who has dementia. The experience and training I have received from my Home Instead job has really helped with my family’s situation.”

To build on their knowledge and experience, Sydney and other Louisville Care Pros are offered the opportunity to increase their dementia-care skills by taking part in the Home Instead network’s one-of-a-kind training protocol. Home Instead’s Person-Centered Care Training for Alzheimer’s Disease and Other Dementias is recognized by the Alzheimer’s Association® for incorporating the evidence-based dementia-care practice recommendations in these topic areas: Alzheimer’s and dementia, person-centered care, assessment and care planning, activities of daily living, and behaviors and communication.

Describing her job fulfillment, Sydney said: “I love that I get to help. Whenever I tell anyone about my job, they tell me they could never do a job like mine because of the emotional toll or because of the potential of helping with personal care. My response has always been that I get to help people in the way in which I would want my family member to be cared. If it is a hospice care situation or one with big challenges, I get to ensure that their end of life is handled with dignity, which is a major privilege to have.”

Six months after joining Home Instead, Sydney was honored as the franchise’s October Care Pro of the Month. She clearly embodies Home Instead’s guiding principles of “Build Trust, Take the Lead and Share Your Heart,” having gone above and beyond the call of duty. Empathy and compassion are taken into account for the award, as well as skill and wisdom for dealing with challenging situations.

Home Instead Recruitment and Engagement Coordinator Brenda Munro said: “Sydney is a wonderful, amazing Care Pro. She really demonstrates exceptional skill and compassion with her client, who has advanced dementia. Sydney has a real ability to connect, redirect and engage in meaningful ways, and she is reliable, friendly and caring.”
