When families in the San Gabriel Valley start looking for a caregiver for a loved one, they check schedules and cost, but there is one question that rarely gets asked until something goes wrong: How exactly is this person trained? At Home Instead of Pasadena, we believe that "good enough" isn't good enough for our clients. While standard caregiver training is often around 5 to 10 hours, our owner, Dr. Greg Sanchez, has spent over five years developing an alternative called the S.T.R.I.V.E. program, which requires 40 hours of intensive training before a caregiver ever steps into a client's home.
Most agencies rely on paper quizzes to check caregiver knowledge. We don't. Our S.T.R.I.V.E. program (Skill Training, Recognition, Innovation, Validation, and Excellence) focuses on four critical areas:
- Safe Transfers
- Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care
- Incontinence Care
- Meaningful Engagement
Our caregivers don't just sit in a class to read about these skills. Home Instead training includes demonstrations and hands-on assessments using mannequins. Our team must prove they have the physical and emotional competency to handle the job. This is followed by 8 to 16 hours of job shadowing with peer mentors to make sure we are all providing the best home care in Pasadena, CA. This means lower turnover, so our caregivers stay with us longer. For your family, that means a friendly face and a consistent routine rather than a revolving door of new strangers.
We are so honored that Pasadena Now recently featured our efforts to raise the bar for senior care. Even a year after our official grant report, the industry is still looking at the Pasadena and Monrovia teams as the blueprint for what high-quality care should look like. Read the Full Article Here.
