Advancing how we care for those with memory loss.
While medical research works towards treatments for memory issues like Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, there have also been advances in how we care for those living with memory loss. With guidance from Dr. Lakelyn Hogan-Eichenberger, Home Instead’s on-staff gerontologist, we’ve developed a person-centered approach to memory support, uniquely designed to:
- Care for the whole person.
- Honor your loved one’s life before their cognitive decline.
- Help them continue to enjoy activities and hobbies they love.
- Compassionately respond to cognitive and behavioral symptoms.
- Help enhance safety in the home environment.
- Review and adjust care plans as needs change.
Compassionate care begins with a thoughtful care plan.
Over the years, one thing has been clear: no two people experience memory loss the same way. That’s why we take the time to understand your loved one’s needs, routines, and story—so we can create an in-home memory care plan that truly fits your family.

In-home memory care FAQs
A visit may include familiar routines, meals, personal care, safe activity, companionship, and reassurance when the day feels confusing. The Care Pro learns what helps the person feel comfortable and engaged, then builds support around those preferences.
One Phoenix client living with Alzheimer’s enjoyed elaborate tea parties with her dolls. Her Care Pro joined the activity and even dressed for the occasion, turning a familiar collection into a joyful part of the person’s day.
Three members of the Phoenix team, including two leaders, are Certified Dementia Practitioners. The certification includes a 10-hour course, and team members complete two hours of continuing education each year.
That preparation supports calmer communication, familiar routines, and respectful responses when memory loss changes the way a person experiences the day.
The team works with Banner Alzheimer’s Institute on Dementia Friendly initiatives in Fountain Hills, Cave Creek, Carefree, and Scottsdale, and the owner participates in Barrow Neurological Institute care-planning forums. The office also runs dementia support groups in Fountain Hills and Cave Creek.
These relationships give families access to education and community connections alongside in-home support. Home Instead’s role remains non-medical home care, coordinated with the person’s broader care team.
It can provide structure and reliable companionship while helping with meals, personal routines, mobility, and safe activities. The right plan depends on what the person can do independently, what has become difficult, and what the family can realistically cover.
A Phoenix care consultation can start with one or two visits and grow as needs change. The team focuses on preserving familiar routines and supporting the person, not on forcing a one-size-fits-all schedule.
Families can use the Home Instead App and regular Care Advisor conversations to stay informed about routines, questions, and changes. That is especially useful when a parent lives in Phoenix but adult children live elsewhere.
The goal is a shared care circle: the older adult remains at the center, the Care Pro supports daily life, and family members have clear ways to participate.
